\n\tSinger-songwriter and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters<\/a> has signed on as executive producer on filmmaker Rishi Pelham\u2019s debut feature documentary, \u201cFreedom Theatre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDescribed as \u201can immersive and sensory character study,\u201d the film follows resistance fighter turned artist Ahmed Tobasi into the creative heart of the Jenin refugee camp in Palestine<\/a>, where he fights to keep his theater open amidst imminent destruction.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t intentionally set out to make this film,\u201d Pelham said. \u201cI kept returning to Jenin, to the theater, to the camp, and over time the story insisted on being told. What drew me in was the tension between two worlds: the black-box rehearsal room, sealed and controllable, and the camp outside, alive, volatile, and impossible to contain. Slowly, these spaces began to bleed into one another.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPelham also co-composed the documentary\u2019s original score, which features prominent Palestinian artists such as techno DJ and producer Sama\u2019 Abdulhadi.<\/p>\n

\n\tShot over the course of five years, \u201cFreedom Theatre\u201d is currently in the final stages of post-production.<\/p>\n

\n\tSuzanne Harb is producing the documentary in collaboration with Pelham for London-based Bathtub Films, behind the director\u2019s award-winning 2019 drama \u201cHilda\u201d that was executive produced by Tim Roth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso on board \u201cFreedom Theatre\u201d are executive partners Khaled Habayeb and Alaa Alasad of Amman-based Tabi360<\/a>, whose credits include Zain Duraie\u2019s acclaimed family drama \u201cSink<\/a>,\u201d which premiered last year in Toronto, and Ameer Fakher Eldin\u2019s 2025 Berlin competition title \u201cYunan<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Waters, the project has gained a prominent activist and supporter of Palestinian liberation. He is among the hundreds of artists who recently signed an open letter<\/a> calling for the Venice Film Festival<\/a> \u201cto take concrete action in support of Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n
