OpenAI said Monday that its ad business, which is roughly 200 days old, builds on its existing revenue engines like its enterprise offerings, consumer subscriptions and usage-based application programming interfaces.

OpenAI began testing ads within its ChatGPT chatbot in the U.S. in February, a decision that was both highly anticipated and controversial. Ads within the chatbot appear for OpenAI’s Go subscribers and its free tier, which makes up the vast majority of its 1 billion weekly active users.

OpenAI said Monday that its ads are clearly labeled and do not influence ChatGPT’s answers. Advertisers do not have access to users’ private conversations.

“Our next phase of growth will bring ChatGPT Ads to more markets and introduce additional formats, objectives, buying options, and measurement capabilities,” OpenAI said in a release. “We will also explore new ways for businesses to interact with consumers in more native ways in ChatGPT.”

—CNBC’s Kate Rooney contributed to this report

WATCH: Experts weigh in on the market’s ability to handle Anthropic and OpenAI going public

Choose CNBC as your preferred source on Google and never miss a moment from the most trusted name in business news.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman arrives for a meeting at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., July 30,…

[261
291,6565,289,290,860,207,18,9360,19,285,17,5763,122918,239929,82,384
post-665256","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-artificial-intelligence","tag-ai","tag-alphabet-class-a","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-artificialintelligence","tag-breaking-news-technology","tag-business-news","tag-eire","tag-enterprise","tag-ie","tag-internet","tag-ireland","tag-meta-platforms-inc","tag-north-africa","tag-openai-forge-global","tag-technology","tag-united-states
["GET
