{"id":665318,"date":"2026-08-31T14:51:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T14:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/665318\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T14:51:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T14:51:15","slug":"irish-comic-marty-gleeson-named-best-newcomer-at-edinburgh-comedy-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/665318\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish comic Marty Gleeson named best newcomer at Edinburgh Comedy Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IRISH COMIC MARTY Gleeson has been named the best newcomer award at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes described as the Oscars for emerging comedy, the Edinburgh Comedy Awards celebrate outstanding performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were established in 1981, and the best newcomer award is for the performer or act who is performing their first full-length show (50 minutes or more) at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>The award also comes with a prize of \u00a35,000 (\u20ac6,000).<\/p>\n<p>Marty Gleeson, from Limerick, took home the best newcomer award for her show Dog Ear.<\/p>\n<p>The London Evening Standard gave the show a five-star review and added that Gleeson is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/culture\/comedy\/marty-gleeson-dog-ear-at-edinburgh-fringe-2026-review-best-newcomer-award-winner-b1295143.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cworthy winner\u201d of the best newcomer award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chortle meanwhile gave the show a four-star review and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chortle.co.uk\/review\/2026\/08\/24\/61414\/marty_gleeson%3A_dog_ear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">described it as \u201cfascinatingly unpredictable\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith flashes of musical comedy on the bodhr\u00e1n, Gleeson draws us into a world that is strange, linguistically playful and uniquely her own,\u201d said the Chortle review.<\/p>\n<p>Accepting the award, Gleeson said thanked her friends and family for their support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"IRISH COMIC MARTY Gleeson has been named the best newcomer award at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
