Andrew Price, better known as Blender Guru, is popular for his Blender tutorials, and this time he shared how to create the backrooms.<\/p>\n
Price explains that creating them doesn’t need modeling or UV unwrapping, and that 90% of the effect is made with just six nodes. The walls are made using math, the pathways with textures, the cutouts with cubes, and the textures are applied using projection mapping.<\/p>\n
The tutorial also teaches how to turn on and off the lights with a slider, use RGB curves to apply a color grade, and use the new film grain to achieve the analog look.<\/p>\n
It’s divided into various steps that teach you how to create walkable pathways by reducing the scale of the Noise Texture. The other nodes he used were Grid, Greater Than, Mesh to Curve, Quadrilateral, and Curve to Mesh.<\/p>\n
You can use the Poliigon add-on to add the beige or yellow wallpaper and the carpeted floor more quickly. The tutorial explains how to use box projection to get a better result.<\/p>\n
Other steps in the tutorial are importing emission maps, segmenting materials in Geometry Nodes, first renders with Cycles, creating long corridors, creating random wall cutouts, creating light panel randomness, linking a shader value to Geometry Nodes, a challenge to take it further, color grading, compositing, adding light glare, and adding film grain.<\/p>\n
