{"id":667202,"date":"2026-09-01T16:38:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T16:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/667202\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T16:38:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T16:38:15","slug":"joey-king-reveals-evan-rachel-wood-conversation-over-practical-magic-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/667202\/","title":{"rendered":"Joey King Reveals Evan Rachel Wood Conversation Over Practical Magic 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sandra-bullock\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sandra-bullock_1\" data-tag=\"sandra-bullock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sandra Bullock<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/nicole-kidman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nicole-kidman_1\" data-tag=\"nicole-kidman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nicole Kidman<\/a> are back for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/practical-magic-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_practical-magic-2_1\" data-tag=\"practical-magic-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Practical Magic 2<\/a>, but not all of the same witches have returned with them. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the sequel, set 25 years after the 1998 cult classic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/joey-king\/\" id=\"auto-tag_joey-king_1\" data-tag=\"joey-king\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joey King<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/maisie-williams\/\" id=\"auto-tag_maisie-williams_1\" data-tag=\"maisie-williams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maisie Williams<\/a> replace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/evan-rachel-wood\/\" id=\"auto-tag_evan-rachel-wood_1\" data-tag=\"evan-rachel-wood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evan Rachel Wood<\/a> and Alexandra Artrip as the daughters of Bullock\u2019s Sally Owens. Wood has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/evan-rachel-wood-not-returning-for-practical-magic-2-1236312674\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spoken out<\/a> about being recast, saying she was \u201cnot asked to come back\u201d and \u201cit was not in my control or my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/evan-rachel-wood-practical-magic-2-not-following-book-1236658715\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">On a red carpet<\/a> for The Shards in July, Wood added that it appeared she wasn\u2019t asked back because \u201cit seems like they\u2019re not following the book,\u201d but wished King the best in taking over the role as oldest daughter Kylie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAt the follow-up\u2019s L.A. premiere on Monday, King told The Hollywood Reporter that she \u201chad a lovely conversation\u201d with Wood following that interview, \u201cand I just was so appreciative of the support that she showed to me and to the rest of the cast. She is so talented and so beautiful and she made this role so special when she was a young girl. I feel so grateful to be able to play Kylie at this age but I love Evan so much and I\u2019m so appreciative of her kind words and the exchange that her and I shared.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDirector Susanne Bier also shed some further light on the recasting decision, explaining, \u201cIt had to be a certain age group; in the story they\u2019re just like literally out of college, and with Joey and Maisie it just felt completely right.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPractical Magic 2 sees Kylie Owens in a much larger role, as she discovers hidden family secrets and develops her own dark abilities. As a result, the Owens women \u2014 with Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing back as the witchy aunts of Bullock and Kidman\u2019s characters \u2014 must reunite to finally break the curse that has haunted their family. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/GettyImages-2292938246.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"2000\" width=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tMaisie Williams, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock and Joey King at the L.A. premiere. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tChloe Kern\/FilmMagic<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe original film was not a smash hit, but has reached cult classic status over the years. Bullock said there wasn\u2019t the thought of a sequel \u201cuntil the din got very loud on social media\u201d and \u201cit required a lot of things to fall into place for it to be the right time. We had to find the window where we could shoot it. Do we have the budget? Can we make it for that budget? Who is going to write it? Who knows us? Akiva Goldsman came in and was like, \u2018Let me write this,\u2019 and we were like, \u2018Have at it.\u2019 It was a lot of things that crashed together at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKidman added, \u201cThere were so many parts to the book [Alice Hoffman\u2019s 2021 novel The Book of Magic] that we were basing it off that it was like mining. Going, what do you choose for this particular film? Because it can\u2019t be eight hours.\u201d Bullock teased, \u201cI mean it can, but no one will go\u201d as she noted, \u201cWe were very true to the nostalgia of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tProducer Denise Di Novi, who was behind the first film as well, echoed that the sequel came together when \u201cthe fans built to such a crescendo of saying \u2018we want this movie\u2019 and the last few years it kind of became undeniable. We all felt it at the same time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd as for if a third movie would be possible, Di Movi emphasized, \u201cWe hope so! Spread the word,\u201d while also explaining the decision for Aidan Quinn\u2019s Officer Gary Hallet \u2014 who seemed to be getting a happily ever after with Sally Owens at the end of the original \u2014 to not appear in the sequel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cHe died! Gary died of the curse,\u201d she confirmed. \u201cWe thought the curse had been solved but the curse had not been solved, and it took down poor Gary.
