One of the world’s best-known fitness brands is set to open its first Cork store in the coming weeks, after months of anticipation.<\/strong><\/p>\n Decathlon announced in March that it was aiming to open a new store in Douglas by the end of summer. While the warm season has since come and gone, it’ll only be a few more weeks before the store opens for business. A precise date has yet to be confirmed, but Decathlon representatives told CorkBeo it expects to open its doors in Douglas in mid-October.<\/p>\n The opening comes as a welcome boost for Rebels keen on keeping fit and exploring the outdoors, who until now have had to order Decathlon gear online unless they fancied a trip to the stores in Dublin or Limerick. The brand first gained popularity in France in the 1970s before expanding into the world’s largest sports retailer. As of 2025, the company operates more than 1,900 stores in 82 countries.<\/p>\n Details of the store’s grand opening in Cork are yet to be officially released, but it’s expected there will be a few handy discounts to mark the brand’s first Leeside expansion.<\/p>\n The new store is part of a partnership with Tesco, and it will operate from a purpose-built 2,300 sqm space next to the supermarket in the Douglas Shopping Centre. Decathlon says the decision to open a dedicated store in Cork was driven by strong customer demand across the county.<\/p>\n At launch, the store will have everything from football boots and marathon running shoes to camping gear and cycling essentials on sale. Decathlon has promised a ‘curated selection of thousands of products’ for the new store, and a full click and collect service will also be available for more niche items.<\/p>\n Decathlon says this latest expansion is driven by strong customer demand here in Cork, with Rebels showing a passion for everything from sea swimming to long country hikes – alongside plenty of soccer and GAA. The store will stock products from well-known fitness brands such as Quechua, Kiprun, Van Rysel, and Kuikma.<\/p>\n The inclusion of padel brands like Kuikma will be particularly welcome here in the Rebel County, which is home to Ireland’s largest Padel facility. The sport continues to grow in popularity across Ireland, with several new courts expected to open across Cork in the near future.<\/p>\n The new store in Douglas aims to cater to everyone from total fitness beginners to seasoned experts, and it will also operate a buyback service, allowing customers to trade in used gear for store credit.<\/p>\n Speaking following the announcement earlier this year, Simon Cooper, Head of Property at Douglas Village Shopping Centre, said: \u201cDouglas Village Shopping Centre has always been focused on creating a vibrant, relevant destination for the local community, and this partnership between Decathlon and Tesco is a perfect reflection of that vision.<\/p>\n “Welcoming a globally recognised brand like Decathlon strengthens our retail offering and enhances the overall experience for our visitors.
