Two types of Social Security payments are set to hit accounts this week. <\/p>\n

Some 7.4 million Supplemental Security Income payments were issued Sept. 1. The payments are traditionally made on the first of the month unless it falls on a weekend or a holiday. SSI payments average about $740 a month and go to some low-income senior citizens, people with disabilities and blindness. <\/p>\n

The second round of payments going out this week will be issued Sept. 3. Those payments are traditional Social Security paid to those who began receiving benefits before May 1997 or if receiving both Social Security and SSI. In those cases, SSI is paid on the first, Social Security on the third. <\/p>\n

What is the schedule for the rest of the month? <\/p>\n

SSI recipients will receive two payments in October- Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 30 \u2013 because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday. They will again receive two payments in December – Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Thursday, Dec. 31 \u2013 because Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, is the New Year’s Day federal holiday. <\/p>\n

Traditional Social Security is paid based on the recipient’s day of birth. People born from the first \u2013 10th are paid on the second Wednesday of the month; people born 11th \u2013 30th- are paid on the third Wednesday; and people born 21st \u2013 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday. <\/p>\n

In September, those dates are Wednesday, Sept. 9, 16 and 23. <\/p>\n

More than 70 million people receive benefits from Social Security. <\/a>The vast majority of these \u2013 56 million \u2013 are retired workers and their dependents. The average monthly benefit for retired workers is $2,084. <\/p>\n
