{"id":669159,"date":"2026-09-02T18:02:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T18:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/669159\/"},"modified":"2026-09-02T18:02:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T18:02:17","slug":"site-of-dublins-historic-ormond-hotel-sold-in-off-market-deal-for-e12m-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/669159\/","title":{"rendered":"Site of Dublin\u2019s historic Ormond Hotel sold in off-market deal for \u20ac12m \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The long-awaited and much-debated redevelopment of the site of the former Ormond Hotel on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>\u2019s Ormond Quay Upper may have moved a step closer following the property\u2019s sale to a group of Irish investors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Having paid about \u20ac2.5 million to developer Bernard McNamara in 2013 to secure ownership of the Victorian-era hotel, which features in \u201cthe Sirens\u201d chapter of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/james-joyce\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/james-joyce\/\">James Joyce<\/a>\u2019s Ulysses, Malaysian-based Monteco Holdings has sold the site in an off-market transaction brokered by agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cbre\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cbre\/\">CBRE<\/a> for about \u20ac12 million. While the figure is a multiple of the price Monteco paid for the property, it is still far short of the \u20ac17 million McNamara splashed out on the hotel\u2019s purchase a year after its closure, in 2006.
