{"id":670275,"date":"2026-09-03T11:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T11:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/670275\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T11:17:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T11:17:10","slug":"chinas-rare-earth-cerium-drug-can-kill-gout-pains-once-and-for-all-scientists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/670275\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s rare earth cerium drug can kill gout pains once and for all: scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">One of the world\u2019s most abundant rare earth elements could offer a comprehensive, long-lasting treatment for gout, a Chinese team has found.<\/p>\n<p>The extremely <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/lifestyle\/health-wellness\/article\/3030675\/gout-explained-why-it-no-longer-disease-decadent-west-its?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">painful form of inflammatory arthritis<\/a> has plagued humanity for millennia. \u201cNo other pain is more severe than this, not iron screws, nor cords, nor the wound of a dagger, nor burning fire\u201d \u2013 that is how the ancient Greek physician Aretaeus described the disease in the second century AD.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">More than 55 million people worldwide had gout in 2020, according to US health data, with the number expected to rise by 70 per cent by 2050.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The disease begins with raised uric acid levels in the blood, or hyperuricemia. Consistently high uric acid causes the formation of joint crystals that trigger severe, sudden pain attacks.
