Robert Pattinson was unable to open The Batman Part II script because it was under such high security.<\/p>\n
The Twilight star is reprising his role as the Caped Crusader for a sequel to the 2022 movie and producers are determined to keep details of the new film under wraps so the script was sent to the actor in a locked pouch which can only be opened with a code – but the measure backfired as Pattinson found himself unable to open it.<\/p>\n
Director Matt Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter: “So, Benito, who\u2019s my assistant, he goes and seeks out a very, very high security pouch that has a code on it that then we have to send separately.<\/p>\n
“And then [Robert] was like: ‘I can\u2019t open it.’ I said: ‘I know, here\u2019s the code.’ He opened it, and then we had a FaceTime after he read. It was very exciting.”<\/p>\n
Reeves went on to reveal he felt relieved when the actor gave the script the thumbs up.<\/p>\n
He added: “He\u2019s Batman, and if he doesn\u2019t like it, not good. I was super excited. I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce [Wayne], have never been done before in this way.<\/p>\n
“I had a feeling that he would respond in this way, but the fact that he did was incredibly encouraging.”<\/p>\n
The moviemaker added of the tight security around the project: “Obviously because of what the first movie was and what this movie is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it\u2019s a mystery.<\/p>\n
“It would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out.”<\/p>\n
Reeves previously revealed he’s proud of the new story and he’s hoping to start filming The Batman Part II in the spring.<\/p>\n
He told Variety: “We start shooting [the film] in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I\u2019m really proud of the script me and Mattson [Tomlin] did, and we\u2019ve started to share it with Robert [Robert].”<\/p>\n
Pattinson previously admitted he felt the weight of pressure and expectation in The Batman and claimed Reeves was such a “perfectionist” during the shoot that he couldn’t remove his costume.<\/p>\n
He told SFX magazine: “I guess in some big movies, people can kind of phone it in. On this, there\u2019s a legacy of really, really good movies – there\u2019s never really been a dud, so everyone brings their A game.<\/p>\n
“Also the way Matt directs as well, he\u2019s such a perfectionist. But you\u2019re never really off the set from the second you arrive in the morning. It\u2019s not like you can go back to a trailer or anything.
