\n\tKarla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n<\/a>, the Oscar-nominated \u201cEmilia Perez\u201d star who sparked controversy earlier this year over her past offensive tweets, is in Rome shooting Italian comedy \u201cSchool of Seduction.\u201d The high-profile film, helmed by Italian comic actor and director Carlo Verdone<\/a>, will drop exclusively on Paramount+<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n

\n\tVerdone, whose films are systematic hits at the Italian box office, stars alongside Gasc\u00f3n and Italian A-lister Vittoria Puccini (\u201cMadly\u201d) and Lino Guanciale (\u201cThe Count of Monte Cristo\u201d) in the catchy film about a \u201clove coach\u201d who helps people navigate the complexities of romance in the digital age.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn an era where falling in love, cheating, making up and breaking up can all happen even through artificial intelligence, six characters \u2014 bound by insecurities and emotional fragilities \u2014 turn to a love coach to help interpret and guide their lives,\u201d reads the provided synopsis. \u201cSome are searching for love, some are trying to save it and others can\u2019t stop questioning the past.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSchool of Seduction\u201d is produced by Luigi and Aurelio De Laurentiis, who have\u00a0an overall deal with Verdone. Verdone\u2019s popular TV series\u00a0\u201cVita da Carlo\u201d\u00a0(\u201cLife as Carlo\u201d),\u00a0in which the local comic icon stars as a fictionalized version of himself,\u00a0also airs on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cReturning to shooting a movie after dedicating five years to a TV series is like debuting all over again,\u201d Verdone said in a statement. \u201cYou are filled with the anticipation and excitement of a new start: wondering if your vision will translate, if your actors will find guidance in your direction, if your focus will set the tone for the crew.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut having assembled a cast of such talented, serious, and reliable actors, including Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n, I can\u2019t help but feel nurtured,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s a chance to prove to myself, and the audience, that I still have something to say. \n\tCommented Gasc\u00f3n: \u201cI\u2019m very happy to be part of Carlo\u2019s film and to be working in Italy. I\u2019ve been in Rome for a few days now and I\u2019m having a wonderful experience in a role that\u2019s truly new to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGasc\u00f3n\u2019s awards season campaign for \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d imploded in January when she came under fire for social media posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which she expressed controversial views on Muslims, George Floyd and diversity at the Oscars. The scandal came as Jacques Audiard\u2019s drug cartel musical was the frontrunner for best picture, earning a top 13 nominations and eventually taking home two statues. Gasc\u00f3n, who was nominated for best actress alongside Demi Moore and winner Mikey Madison, apologized for the tweets and ended up attending the awards ceremony, though she did not walk the red carpet. Despite the media firestorm, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in\u00a0a cover story with\u00a0Variety<\/a>\u00a0that the company would be open to working with the actress again.<\/p>\n

\n\tMore recently, Gas\u00f3n attended the Venice Film Festival last month where she received an Italian honor, called a Kin\u00e9o Award, presented by Italy\u2019s Ministry of Cultural Heritage with the Kin\u00e9o Cultural Association.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSchool of Seduction\u201d is not Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s first film to surface following the awards season controversy. She will appear in several other projects at various stages, the most advanced of which is the 19th century-set English-language Western\u00a0\u201cTrinidad,\u201d directed by Spain\u2019s Laura Alvea and Jos\u00e9 Ortu\u00f1o.
