{"id":674373,"date":"2026-09-05T20:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/674373\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T20:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:13:08","slug":"pokemon-go-battle-league-season-28-release-date-changes-plus-season-28-rank-rewards-dates-and-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/674373\/","title":{"rendered":"Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League Season 28 release date, changes, plus Season 28 rank rewards, dates and rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League<\/strong> takes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-pvp-trainer-battles-rewards-5392\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pok\u00e9mon Go&#8217;s Battle system<\/a> &#8211; which until 2020 allowed friends or local players to complete against one another &#8211; and make it into a competitive, worldwide matchmade league anyone can compete in.<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of Season 6 in November 2020, the Go Battle League underwent a number of significant changes &#8211; increasing the number of ranks to 24 with the highest ranks being marked by special names (Ace, Veteran, Expert, Legend), new rewards and an increased length. <\/p>\n<p>Despite these changes, the overall structure of the Go Battle League in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/pokemon-go\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pok\u00e9mon Go<\/a> has remained the same &#8211; players are still placed <strong>Ranks<\/strong> that reset at the end of every <strong>Season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Like Raids, it also has paid and free participation, with different <strong>Go Battle League rewards<\/strong> accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>On this page:<\/p>\n<p>To see this content please enable targeting cookies.<\/p>\n<p>Manage cookie settings <\/p>\n<p>How the Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League works, from Ranks to Seasons<\/p>\n<p>There are many components to how the Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League works, with a number of changes being introduced in Season 6 alongside the Season of Celebration, but here it is at a glance:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League takes place over the course of a Season, and will rotate through all three existing Leagues which cap Pok\u00e9mon by their CP &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-great-league-recommendations-7002-5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Great League<\/a> (1500 CP), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-ultra-league-recommendations-7002\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ultra League<\/a> (2500 CP) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-master-league-recommendations-7002\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Master League<\/a> (any CP) &#8211; every two weeks. There are bonus leagues introduced in new seasons, but those three will feature in every season.<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>The CP for Mega Evolutions will be automatically redued temporarily to ensure they can participate in the Great League: Mega Edition and Ultra League: Mega Edition. This reduction will only be in effect during the battle, returning to normal afterwards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>From Season 6 onwards, the number of Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League Ranks increased to 24. The ranks still have a number of different progression requirements; climbing from Rank 1 to Rank 20 requires you to partake and win a number of battles, while Rank 21 to Rank 24, each with it&#8217;s own unique title, requires you to reach a certain rating. During the current Interlude season, however, the rankings have been capped at 20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img alt=\"\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"pokemon_go_battle_league_season_10_rewards_2.jpg\" height=\"1080\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1.7777777777777777\" width=\"1920\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your &#8216;battle rating&#8217; that increases when you win and drops when you lose. Though this exists outside of the Rank system, you are required to progress past certain thresholds to progress the last four Ranks. It also gives you an additional metric to complete against (with your friends, or even yourself) once you reach Rank 24 within a Season.<\/li>\n<li>For the five matches you play within a set, you can receive rewards, which are displayed on screen in a &#8216;free&#8217; and &#8216;premium&#8217; track, the latter you can enter by using a Premium Pass. Note once you have entered a run of battles, you cannot change track partway through.<\/li>\n<li>There are also additional rewards you earn when you level up a rank, and more at the end of the season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"button video\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1XDFOBDL3V8\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Watch on YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League rules and battle restrictions<\/p>\n<p>Go Battle League battles seem to behave the same as a standard Battle against a Friend or someone locally, but there are some competitive-orientated rules and restrictions to make things fair:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each time you enter the Go Battle League, you will play a &#8216;set&#8217; of five matches.<\/li>\n<li>There is a limit to how many Go League Battles you can participate in per day, whether free or paid, at six sets (or 30 battles) per day.<\/li>\n<li>You can only use one of each Pok\u00e9mon species in your Battle team in a contest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img alt=\"\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"pokemon_go_battle_league.jpg\" height=\"512\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 2.0\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As per game-wide Battle rule changes, if Pok\u00e9mon use Charged Attacks at the same time, the Pok\u00e9mon with the highest Attack stat will go first. If they are the same, one Pok\u00e9mon chosen at random will go first.<\/li>\n<li>Switching between Pok\u00e9mon will reset any changes made to Attack or Defence, such as buffs or debuffs from moves made during battle.<\/li>\n<li>The switcher timed was changed to 45 seconds during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-tales-of-transformation-egg-pool-changes-bonuses-end-date\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tales of Transformation Season<\/a> and will continue to be so going forwards. This change is also live in Trainer Battles against friends and all Team Go Rocket battles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League Season 28 dates explained<\/p>\n<p>Season 28 of the Go Battle League is running throughout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-twilight-trails-new-egg-events\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twilight Trails<\/a> in Pok\u00e9mon Go. During this season, you&#8217;ll be able to compete in a selection of special cups in all three leagues &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-great-league-recommendations-7002-5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Great<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-ultra-league-recommendations-7002\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ultra<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-master-league-recommendations-7002\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Master<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Leagues will rotate on a weekly basis. The only exception is when all three Leagues are running simultaneously and, during this time, no special cup will be available (except for when the three leagues run simultaneous three times during the season). The first quest step focuses on catching Pok\u00e9mon, rewarding you with Pok\u00e9mon encounters that will help you build a new Go Battle League team. This makes it perfect for anyone who hasn&#8217;t invested much time in battling within the Leagues!<\/p>\n<p>After this page, the others will following the League quests of days past &#8211; tracking your victories during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-twilight-trails-new-egg-events\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twilight Trails<\/a> Season, requiring you to partake in 100 battles and achieve 50 victories to complete each one. In return for completing progressing, you&#8217;ll earn Stardust, Rare Candy XL, an Elite Fast TM and an Elite Charged TM.<\/p>\n<p>The second event is the recurring <strong>Go Battle Thursday<\/strong> events running between 12am to 11:59pm (local time) every Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>During these events, you&#8217;ll earn quadruple Stardust from win rewards, but not end-of-set rewards. The number of battle sets you can partake in will also be increased to 10, meaning you can partake in 50 battles every Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"pokemon_go_little_jungle_cup.jpg\" height=\"1080\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1.7777777777777777\" width=\"1920\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League Rank requirements<\/p>\n<p>Go Battle League has you progress through 24 Ranks per Season. This number was increased from 10 on November 30th 2020, alongside the release of Season 6 of the Go Battle League and the Season of Celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Each Rank requires a different objective for you to progress, and each one also has it&#8217;s own set of rewards.<\/p>\n<p>From Season 6 onwards, you&#8217;ll need to participate and win a number of battles to progress from Rank 1 to Rank 20.<\/p>\n<p>Certain ranks will be easier to overcome than others, because they will only require you to complete one set of battles to progress. This means that, even if you only win one battle out of five, you&#8217;ll still progress to the next rank.<\/p>\n<p>The Ranks that only require you to complete one battle set are &#8211; Rank 5, Rank 10, Rank 15 and Rank 19.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"pokemon_go_end_2020_community_day.jpg\" height=\"512\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 2.0\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If you wish to climb from Rank 21 to Rank 24, however, you need to obtain a certain rating by remaining undefeated for a certain number of matches.<\/p>\n<p>Each Rank from 21 to 24 also has its own specific title &#8211; Ace, Veteran, Expert and Legend &#8211; which not only helps you identify which rating you need to achieve, but gives you some good bragging rights too.<\/p>\n<p>Below you can find which title has been assigned to each rank, alongside the rating you&#8217;ll need to progress to that specific rank:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rank 21 &#8211; Ace &#8211; 2,000 rating<\/li>\n<li>Rank 22 &#8211; Veteran &#8211; 2,500 rating<\/li>\n<li>Rank 23 &#8211; Expert &#8211; 2,750 rating<\/li>\n<li>Rank 24 &#8211; Legend &#8211; 3,000 rating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"pokemon-go-link-block\">\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s time for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-fest-2026-mega-finale-activities-bonuses-start-time\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Go Fest 2026: Mega Finale<\/a> event! This includes set win rewards, Pok\u00e9mon encounters and rewards for progressing to a new Rank.<\/p>\n<p>The specifics of rewards, especially the Pok\u00e9mon encounters, tend to change from season to season, so it&#8217;s always a good idea to read through this section at the beginning of each season, so that you know what&#8217;s waiting for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rank rewards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rank rewards are, as the name suggests, the rewards you receive for progressing to a new rank in the Go Battle League. These rewards often include useful items, like Potions, and Stardust.<\/p>\n<p>Under the ranking system from Season 6 onwards, a number of ranks now only require you to complete one set of battles, be it win or lose, for you to progress to the next rank. These ranks have also been given specific reward tracks, which means you&#8217;re guaranteed a certain type of reward for completing them.<\/p>\n<p>Below you can find these special ranks and the type of rewards you&#8217;ll receive for completing them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rank 5 &#8211; Mystery items<\/li>\n<li>Rank 10 &#8211; Stardust<\/li>\n<li>Rank 15 &#8211; Rare Candies<\/li>\n<li>Rank 19 &#8211; Pok\u00e9mon encounters and an Elite Fast TM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Go League set win rewards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"pokemon_go_battle_league_8.jpg\" height=\"1007\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 0.6703078450844091\" width=\"675\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Each set contains five matches, and you earn more rewards for each subsequent win, allowing you to win a total of five rewards if you win every match.<\/p>\n<p>Before you play, you can either earn basic (free) rewards or use a Premium Pass to earn a different set of rewards. These are usually more of the same reward types, or will see the order shuffled so it&#8217;s easier to get certain rewards.<\/p>\n<p>You can see what the rewards in both the basic and premium sets are before you begin, so you can make the call of whether you want to spend a Premium Pass or not (after all, winning isn&#8217;t guaranteed!).<\/p>\n<p>Possible rewards in both tracks include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stardust<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-moves-movesets-move-list-and-highest-dps-attacks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charged TMs<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mystery Item (either a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-sinnoh-stone-5392\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinnoh Stone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/pokemon-go-moves-movesets-move-list-and-highest-dps-attacks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charged TMs<\/a>, Golden Razz Berry or Silver Pinap Berry<\/li>\n<li>Rare Candy<\/li>\n<li>Pok\u00e9mon Encounter (some guaranteed at certain ranks)<\/li>\n<li>When you hit certain ranks &#8211; Avatar items, such Pikachu Libre and character-inspired clothing and avatar pose exclusive to that season<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League Season 27 encounter rewards<\/p>\n<p>Pok\u00e9mon encounters are the same regardless of whether you go for the free or premium reward track, but differ according to your Rank. If you&#8217;re playing the free reward track, then you&#8217;re guaranteed a Pok\u00e9mon encounter after three wins, but, if you&#8217;re on premium, then you only need one win to earn your encounter.<\/p>\n<p>The higher the rank, the wider the pool of possible encounters gets, with more rare creatures available. This means if you haven&#8217;t had your encounter with Toxtricity (Low Key Form) by the time you reach Rank 17 and then earn an encounter, you&#8217;ll have to face this Pok\u00e9mon before Dondozo.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve caught Toxtricity (Low Key Form), you&#8217;ll be able to catch Dondozo during your next Pok\u00e9mon encounter and this is the same for all the guaranteed Pok\u00e9mon encounters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Pok\u00e9mon Go Battle League rewards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The inspiration for Season 28&#8217;s outfit rewards is Ryme, the Montenevera Gym Leader in Paldea.
