{"id":674467,"date":"2026-09-05T21:48:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T21:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/674467\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T21:48:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T21:48:14","slug":"two-year-old-dies-after-being-struck-by-car-in-limerick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/674467\/","title":{"rendered":"Two-year-old dies after being struck by car in Limerick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A two-year-old boy died in hospital after being struck by a car in Rathkeale, Co Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>He was struck by a jeep in the Abbeycourt area of the town this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>He was brought by a family member to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of serious injuries where he was subsequently pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>A man in his 30s was arrested at a different location under suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.<\/p>\n<p>He was questioned at a garda station in Limerick about the incident and has since been released pending analysis of an evidential sample.<\/p>\n<p>The scene had been sealed off and there is a large garda presence in the area as forensic collision investigators carry out a technical examination.<\/p>\n<p>A post-mortem examination will be conducted at UHL by the State Pathologist tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support the family of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact Rathkeale Garda Station.<\/p>\n<p>They will be viewing CCTV footage in the area as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed say they are following a definite line of enquiry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A two-year-old boy died in hospital after being struck by a car in Rathkeale, Co Limerick.
