Kid Cudi defended his decision to perform with his longtime friend and controversial musician,\u00a0Ye<\/a>\u00a0(formerly known as\u00a0Kanye West<\/a>), after some fans and critics expressed disappointment. DJ Peter Rosenberg wrote<\/a> a post on X, not directed at Kid Cudi, saying musicians were being \u201copenly lame\u201d for supporting the rapper, and Cudi took it as a chance to explain his decision. \u201cI understand ur frustration Peter, I fucks w u, but I dont really care if ur disappointed in me. That man is my brother. U dont have a relationship w him like I do,\u201d he wrote on September 5. \u201cDamn near 2 decades of art and friendship. U not family. So I get it. Ive been around Ye, and I can honestly say talking to him now is how it use to be when I first signed to him, but even better.\u201d Cudi was one of many artists who joined Ye on stage at his Chicago homecoming show on September 4.<\/p>\n

Cudi claims that those not close to Ye can\u2019t see the progress he\u2019s made on his mental health; early this year, Ye apologized<\/a> in an ad taken out of the WSJ in January for his antisemitic<\/a> behavior. \u201cHe was dealing w mental health struggles for years and now hes good. Everyone deserves some grace when they family,\u201d Cudi concluded. \u201cI was the hardest on him out of anybody. I held him accountable. He apologized and it was sincere. But like I said, u not family so I get it.\u201d Ye was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and claimed that he went through a \u201cfour-month long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n
