After meeting and marrying Bridget, Pete decided to settle in Bray.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sportswoman is the youngest of four children. She said if you\u2019ve split up with my mother, then I don\u2019t want you in my corner,&#8217; he said in 2019. &#8216;She knew what the outcome would be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;She knew that she\u2019d be missing me in the corner, but she still had the morals to go ahead and do that. In June 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/evoke.ie\/2018\/06\/05\/news\/katie-taylors-dad-shot-bray-boxing-club\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pete was a victim in the Bray boxing club shooting<\/a>. He was shot in the chest and arm, but survived his injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement released to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Irish Times<\/a> after the incident, Katie said: &#8216;Following the horrific gun attack that took place in Bray Boxing Club early last Tuesday morning in which one man, Bobby Messett, was tragically killed and two others, Ian Britton and my father Pete Taylor, were seriously injured, there has been considerable public interest in all aspects of the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;However, for personal reasons as well as ensuring clarity in future stories that will inevitably be written, I would like to make the following statement.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/672591.jpg\" alt=\"9 August 2012; Team Ireland's Katie Taylor, with her father and trainer Pete, speaks to the media following her women's light 60kg final bout against Russia's Sofya Ochigava. I can\u2019t imagine the despair or the sense of injustice they must be dealing with. I\u2019m praying they know God\u2019s comfort in the hard days ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;For my Dad, I\u2019m very thankful and relieved he made it through this horrific attack and is recovering well. I\u2019ve had little contact with him in the last three years and no contact or association whatsoever with Bray Boxing Club since 2015,&#8217; she continued. Pic: Stephen McCarthy\/Sportsfile<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s no love like a mother&#8217;s, and Katie has previously gushed that <a href=\"https:\/\/evoke.ie\/2024\/11\/14\/entertainment\/celebrity\/katie-taylor-thanks-mum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">her beloved mum, Bridget, is her &#8216;biggest supporter&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Katie couldn&#8217;t contain her emotions during her pre-fight press conference in the build-up to her bout with Amanda Serrano last November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a long pause, she told reporters: &#8216;It\u2019s amazing. She\u2019s the biggest support,\u2019 through tears. \u2018I have to compose myself. Pic: Katie Taylor  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Katie keeps her personal and professional life very much separate and is\u00a0very\u00a0private about her life outside of the ring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking previously to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Athletic<\/a>, Katie went as far as to call questions about her relationship status &#8216;annoying&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked what FAQs she&#8217;s sick of answering, the Irishwoman said: &#8216;Probably the question about relationships. Pic: Tom Horak\/Sportsfile<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;I was reading somewhere that\u00a0&#8220;Katie Taylor\u00a0never got married because of her father, he wouldn&#8217;t let her&#8221;,&#8217; he said, before confirming: &#8216;Katie&#8217;s married, you know, and I&#8217;m thinking, &#8216;where are you getting this s*** from?&#8221;&#8216;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In September, <a href=\"https:\/\/evoke.ie\/2025\/09\/09\/entertainment\/katie-taylor-wicklow-husband\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Katie&#8217;s husband was seen for the first time<\/a> in a picture from the boxer&#8217;s visit to the Tigin Men&#8217;s Centre in Ashford, Co Wicklow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The newlywed couple posed for a snap with Senator Aubrey McCarthy, founder of the organisation. Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sundayworld.com\/news\/boxing-legend-katie-taylor-is-step-mum-to-five-children-with-new-husband\/a1906273065.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">t<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=286233X1772753&amp;isjs=1&amp;jv=15.9.1&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fevoke.ie%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D2016404%26action%3Dedit&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sundayworld.com%2Fnews%2Fboxing-legend-katie-taylor-is-step-mum-to-five-children-with-new-husband%2Fa1906273065.html&amp;xs=1&amp;xtz=0&amp;xuuid=5420fb074cd33d77054289001038acd5&amp;cci=49b274fffacccd267cac90b4248d06f0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he Sunday World<\/a>, Katie has known Se\u00e1n for several years and has even been on holiday with his family in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s believed she met Sean and his then-wife, Alicia, while attending the same church in their local area in the United States, after the boxer had moved there in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October of 2023, Alicia died suddenly at the age of 43. Pic: INPHO\/Morgan Treacy<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Katie announced her retirement on February 25, 2026, and is set to fight one more time before throwing her towel into the ring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She explained that it was her dream to have her farewell fight in Croke Park, adding that she will finish her career off with a bang, in the form of an &#8216;amazing celebration.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Katie told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/boxing\/2026\/0225\/1560357-taylor-to-retire-after-dublin-fight-this-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">RT\u00c9 Sport<\/a>: &#8216;It has been an amazing journey, the whole lot of it, over these last 20 years. I have had the highs and lows. I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Fighting my last fight in our most iconic arena, how special would that be? I think it would be absolutely remarkable if I [were] able to do that.
