But online, the clip never disappeared \u2013 and more than 10 million views later, it has become the latest test of <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/south-korea?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">South Korea<\/a>\u2019s fight against AI-enabled sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Fans were quick to cry deepfake, dissecting the footage frame by frame for signs of possible AI manipulation and calling for it to be taken down.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/k-pop?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">K-pop<\/a> star\u2019s agency, OA Entertainment, neither confirmed nor denied the clip\u2019s authenticity, merely saying in a statement on August 18 that it had \u201crecently identified ongoing misconduct targeting the artist [Jennie] across online communities and social media platforms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">It added that it was working with lawyers to pursue civil and criminal action, vowing \u201cno compromise or leniency whatsoever\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The account believed to have first posted the video has now been suspended, but no official police or prosecutorial follow-up has yet been announced.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Activists protest against deepfake porn in Seoul, South Korea, in August 2024.
