class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">While you might not consider your inner thighs as a priority area for building strength, it could be time to give them some love in your workout routine. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Your inner thigh muscles are collectively known as &#8216;the adductors&#8217;, a group made up of five different muscles: <strong data-node-id=\"9.1\">adductor brevis, adductor longus, adductor magnus, gracilis and pectineus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Weakness and tightness in these muscles may contribute to knee, hip and lower-back pain and reduced ankle mobility \u2013 as well as issues with balance and stability.  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"18\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">In short, strong inner thighs can help support healthy ageing.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"23\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">If you don\u2019t know where to start with strengthening the all-important adductors, 58-year-old certified nutritionist and fitness coach <a href=\"https:\/\/theresamoloney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/theresamoloney.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Theresa Moloney\" data-node-id=\"23.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Theresa Moloney<\/a> recently shared her top tips <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DcoomuTBt-B\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DcoomuTBt-B\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"on Instagram\" data-node-id=\"23.3\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">on Instagram<\/a>, urging women to remember that \u2018you can sculpt stronger, more defined muscles at any age.\u2019  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"27\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Indeed, in a small <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/2342214\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-node-id=\"27.1\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/2342214\/\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"study\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">study<\/a> of frail care home residents in their 90s (!), researchers found that eight weeks of high-intensity strength training increased quadriceps strength by an average of 174% (!!!) \u2013 and also improved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a73453914\/treadmill-vs-outdoor-walking\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/a73453914\/treadmill-vs-outdoor-walking\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"walking\" data-node-id=\"27.3\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">walking<\/a> ability.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u2018I used to think I needed more inner-thigh isolation exercises [movements that target a specific muscle group and joint],\u2019 Moloney noted. \u2018What changed everything was learning to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a36967958\/compound-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/strength-training\/a36967958\/compound-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"compound movements\" data-node-id=\"32.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">compound movements<\/a> [exercises that use more than one muscle group at once] that work my inner thighs, hips and glutes together.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"36\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u2018For sculpted inner thighs at 58,\u2019 Moloney said that she relies on the following three exercises.  <\/p>\n<p><strong data-node-id=\"38.0\">Theresa Moloney\u2019s go-to inner-thigh exercises<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"43\" class=\"body-tip css-1c5elkc emevuu60\"><strong data-node-id=\"43.0\">How to make the moves into a workout: <\/strong>Moloney does 10-12 reps of sumo squats followed by 10-12 reps of side lunges and curtsy lunges on each side, repeating the full circuit three times. She&#8217;s using 8lb dumbbells \u2013 equivalent to roughly 3.6kg \u2013 but it\u2019s important to choose the right weight for you (possibly beginning with bodyweight). Sumo squat<img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788705190_39_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"49\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"49.0\">Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, evenly distribute your weight, and turn your toes out to 10 and 2 o\u2019clock. <\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"49.1\">Keep your core tight and chest tall as you inhale, bend your knees, and sink your hips down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. <\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"49.2\">Exhale as you drive through your feet back to an upright standing position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Side lunge<img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788705190_960_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"52\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"52.0\">Start with your feet shoulder-width apart and core braced for stability.<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"52.1\">Take a wide step out to the side with one leg, planting the whole foot.<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"52.2\">Hinging your hips back, bend your knee to 90 degrees so that your thigh is parallel to the floor. Keep your stationary leg straight, with your foot flat on the floor.<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"52.3\">Push through your planted foot to return to the starting position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Curtsy lunge <img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1788705191_623_poster.jpg\" alt=\"Image no longer available\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"57\" class=\"css-12c7ta7 emevuu60\">\n<li data-node-id=\"57.0\">Stand with your feet hip-width apart \u2013 hands on your hips if you&#8217;re not using dumbbells.<\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"57.1\">Take a big step back with your right leg, crossing it behind your left. <\/li>\n<li data-node-id=\"57.2\">Bend your knees and lower your hips until your left thigh is nearly parallel to the floor.
