Garda Representative Association (GRA)<\/a> has raised the issue of a lack of accommodation for garda\u00ed. Thousands of members will be deployed across the country, but particularly in Dublin, Shannon and Doonbeg to secure the operation.\u00a0<\/p>\nGarda Commissioner Justin Kelly has declared Operation Far Sunrise as an extraordinary event. This means garda leave and rest days can be cancelled.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Part of the issue is that a massive number of garda\u00ed are required because of the requests from the United States. This includes garda\u00ed who were trained in specialist tactical considerations such as Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear incidents as well as search teams and public order unit work.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The main body of members will be in uniform maintaining a presence on roadways and the beach around Doonbeg. Such is the volume needed that garda\u00ed temporarily assigned to plain clothes duties, known as Buckshee in the Job, will be returned to uniform duties.<\/p>\n
Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin has sought to calm some nerves around the capability of the garda organisation to secure events.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cI spoke to the Commissioner on Thursday evening, and he was, first of all, very strong and confident in terms of the capacity of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na to meet the challenges that lie ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an exceptionally busy year for An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, with the Presidency of the European Union, the visit of President Trump, and we do have the capacities to manage this and to do it properly.<\/p>\n
\u201cResources, and very significant resources, have been allocated in that regard, and so I\u2019m confident of that,\u201d he said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
Irish Open<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, for those attending the Amgen Irish Open at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, garda\u00ed have reminded them that they must use one of the two \u2018park and ride\u2019 facilities to access the event.<\/p>\n
Spectators should also allow extra time to get to the \u2018park and ride\u2019 site and to follow event traffic signage instead of Satnavs or other devices.<\/p>\n
Every person attending the Irish Open, for whatever purpose, will be subject to security checks on arrival and security bag searches will be in operation on entry on all bags.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, access for local residents and persons with \u201clegitimate business\u201d within any diversion routes will be maintained.<\/p>\n
