\n\tThe plot thickens. After Gary Oldman<\/a> claimed that the new James Bond<\/a> has finally been chosen, the film\u2019s writer Steven Knight<\/a> has playfully stonewalled questions on the subject.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today show on Tuesday morning, Knight was asked if a casting decision had been made after Oldman threw his support behind Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI cannot speak about this subject. Much as I would dearly love to,\u201d Knight chuckled, adding that he felt like he was \u201cdoing my duty for King and country\u201d by taking on Ian Fleming\u2019s spy franchise for Amazon MGM Studios.<\/p>\n

\n\tBBC presenter Anna Foster prodded Knight further. \u201cPresumably you know who it is when you\u2019re writing it. Does that make a difference?\u201d she asked the Peaky Blinders creator. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor,\u201d Knight responded.<\/p>\n

\n\tFoster tried one more time. \u201cSo they told you at the beginning before you started writing, or do they tell you halfway through?\u201d she asked. Knight laughed: \u201cI refer you to my previous answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued: \u201cThe thing with Bond is it\u2019s its own universe, and it\u2019s its own franchise. So there are certain rules. I mean, obviously you have to move it along, but I love where it sits. I love that it\u2019s British. I love that it\u2019s not DC or Marvel \u2026 So I feel a responsibility to the text.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOldman sent speculation into overdrive over the weekend when he claimed that 007 had been cast \u2014 and that he was rooting for Lowden.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been rumored that he\u2019s on the shortlist,\u201d Oldman told Canada\u2019s Global. \u201cWe\u2019re going to find out pretty soon, aren\u2019t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline reported\u00a0<\/a>over the summer that auditions were taking place for James Bond in August. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, as well as director Denis Villeneuve, informed talent who had been shortlisted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The plot thickens.
