{"id":678990,"date":"2026-09-08T18:34:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T18:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/678990\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T18:34:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T18:34:16","slug":"boy-12-killed-after-train-hits-car-is-described-by-mother-as-kind-hearted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/678990\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy, 12, killed after train hits car is described by mother as \u2018kind-hearted\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The mother of a 12-year-old boy who was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/arid-41906596.html\">killed after a train hit a car<\/a> has described him at his funeral in Co Mayo as a kind-hearted child whose \u201cbit of devilment\u201d was irresistible.<\/p>\n<p>Eoin Doyle died last Thursday evening after the crash at a level crossing in Kiltybo near Ballyhaunis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">His father Declan was taken from the scene by ambulance for hospital treatment for non life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It is understood they had been travelling home from Gaelic football training when the incident happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mourners at his funeral at St Patrick\u2019s Church in Cloonfad heard how he was deeply loved by his family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and most especially his twin sister, Saoirse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">His mother Elaine told the funeral that Saoirse \u201cadored\u201d her twin brother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAs a baby, Eoin had something called silent reflux, which meant he spent most of his first year on someone\u2019s shoulder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt was lucky that there were lots of shoulders for Eoin, from his doting grandparents, to his aunts and uncles. As a result, he never slept in a cot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe always loved having someone to lie in with him to fall asleep every night and that continued until some time last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI thought it would never end, but I would give anything now to another night to lie in with Eoin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was cuddly and affectionate, often putting his arms around you after after just giving out to him for something and he knew that you couldn\u2019t stay cross with him for very long.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/5221405_4_articleinlinemobile_493505135_24147987318137290_6212483235050145191_n_20_1_20_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Eoin Doyle. The 12-year-old\u2019s death has sent shockwaves through the Ballyhaunis community, with his family widely respected in the area and well known in GAA circles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She said Eoin had many loves in his life and sport was one of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cFrom an early age, he was kicking a ball around the house, and this continued for 12 years,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAnywhere we went, there had to be a ball brought in the boot of the car. Soccer was always his favourite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe loved every training session and game with Cloonfad United.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe couldn\u2019t leave early enough for training, and we were often left waiting in the car for him to come out at the end.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHis dream was to play with his beloved Man United. And we never know, really whether that could have happened or not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She said he had his first training session recently with the under-13 football team in Ballyhaunis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was a bit reluctant and nervous to go. I didn\u2019t want (him) to go and really, he was pretty anxious about going, but when he was on his way home, Declan told me afterwards, he was really excited about how well it had actually gone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"> Elaine spoke about the close bond Eoin and Saoirse shared, and how the pair loved playing Lego together and how she has lose her other half.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n            His kind and friendly nature, with a bit of devilment was irresistible.\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cEoin was deeply loved by his family, adoring grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, but most especially by his twin sister Saoirse. She adored him,\u201d mourners were told.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cHe was her boy, often saving him from trouble by helping him fill his water bottle for training, finding his shoes in a hurry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThey would spend ages playing Lego, talking at night. Picture: Clodagh Kilcoyne\/PA Wire<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Elaine said they have had an overwhelming outpouring of kindness and support since that Thursday night from all over the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cMessages, people from everywhere, people we don\u2019t know. It\u2019s been so uplifting, and we can truly describe it or comprehend yet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re truly grateful and thank everybody properly in due course. The loss of our beautiful boy has no positives at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAlbeit, that it highlights the importance of kindness to others in our daily life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cEoin was kind-hearted to family, friends, and our pets, he hated to see anyone up upset or in trouble.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for all the people who loved Eoin in his short life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt means so much to us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s very difficult to know how we go on from here. Our home has changed forever. There\u2019s an empty bedroom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe count on Eoin to bring us strength and watch over us every day, and I feel he\u2019s doing that now already.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cRest in peace, our fine, handsome boy.
