The royal family\u2014with the exception of Queen Camilla<\/a>, Prince Edward<\/a>, and Prince Harry<\/a>\u2014gathered at Westminster Cathedral to pay their final respects to the late Katharine, Duchess of Kent<\/a>. Among the mourners was Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, marking a rare appearance with the royal family for Andrew.<\/p>\n

Prince Andrew\u2019s last appearance with the royals was on Easter Sunday<\/a>. The Duke of York stepped back from royal duties<\/a> in 2019 after a disastrous Newsnight interview about his links to Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>. At that time, Buckingham Palace said that he would continue to appear publicly at some family events, and in the years since, he does typically attend funerals and other Church events.<\/p>\n

The Duke of York has been back in the news recently over his association with Epstein. In addition, a memoir<\/a> by Virginia Giuffre, the woman who accused Prince Andrew of sexual assault<\/a> and settled a lawsuit with him<\/a>, is set to be published months after her death<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Giuffre\u2019s family told the BBC<\/a> the Duke of York needs to be fully investigated. \u201cIt doesn’t matter if it\u2019s a Royal Family member or president or prince… every single person deserves to be held to the fullest extent of the law,\u201d Sky Roberts, Giuffre\u2019s brother, said. \u201cOf course he\u2019s been stripped of… all of these different things and publicly shamed in certain ways, but that\u2019s not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roberts added, \u201cThe fact that he\u2019s still out there, that he’s still living in a palace or a castle is not enough\u2026Prince Andrew, you need to be fully investigated, and if it is found that you had any participation, you need to be put behind bars for the rest of your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andrew has denied any allegations of sexual abuse on multiple occasions. At the time of his settlement with Giuffre, his team said in a statement, \u201cPrince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years,\u201d the statement continues. \u201cPrince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.\u201d<\/p>\n
