\n\t\u201cErupcja,\u201d Pete Ohs\u2019 Toronto-premiering drama in which Charli xcx<\/a> has her first lead movie role, has been acquired for the U.S.<\/p>\n

\n\t1-2 Special<\/a> has picked up North American rights to the feature with plans to release it in theaters in 2026. Alongside Charli, award-winning playwright Jeremy O. Harris, frequent Ohs collaborator Will Madden and breakout actress Lena G\u00f3ra also star. <\/p>\n

\n\tShot guerilla-style in Warsaw, Poland, \u201cErupcja\u201d follows two women as they compulsively complicate their romantic lives. Nel (G\u00f3ra) lives in Warsaw where she works at a flower shop. When her childhood friend Bethany (Charli) comes to visit with a new boyfriend, a volcano, as if by fate, erupts, causing the trio to become entangled in a romantic web that forces them to question their place in the universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cErupcja\u201d was produced by Spartan Media Acquisitions (Ohs), Forever Holiday (Luke Arreguin), bb\u00b2 (Josh Godfrey and Harris), and Charli. The deal was negotiated by CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers with 1-2 Special. Magnify represents international sales.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFinally, another cool distributor exists to champion cool movies. We need more of them,\u201d said Ohs, a mainstay of the festival circuit for several years with films including \u201cJethica,\u201d \u201cLove and Work\u201d and \u201cThe True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick.\u201d \u201cI have a lot of hope for 1-2 Special. They are already off to a strong start with films by Harris Dickinson, Christian Petzold, Sim\u00f3n Mesa Soto and two by Radu Jude. It\u2019s a club I\u2019m happy to be a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOhs served as writer, producer, director, editor and cinematographer on \u201cErupcja,\u201d following a creative process that finds inspiration in a specific location and closely involves the cast and crew in bringing the story to life. Charli, Harris, Madden and G\u00f3ra each contributed to the screenplay of the film, which features a score by Charles Watson of the band Slow Club, and Isabella Summers of Florence + the Machine.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am really enjoying my acting journey,\u201d Charli told Variety in August<\/a> ahead of the premieres of both \u201cErupcja\u201d in Toronto and Julia Jackman\u2019s Venice-bowing \u201c100 Nights of Hero.\u201d \u201cI feel very, very inspired at the moment in that field, I feel unbelievably creative, and I only ever want to do things that inspire me and make me feel energized.\u201d<\/p>\n
