Coronation Street<\/a> is gearing up to kill off a major character. Set to air in the new year as part of the Emmerdale crossover episode<\/a>, executive producer Iain MacLeod teased someone will meet their end.<\/p>\n

MacLeod told the Daily Star<\/a>: “The soap gods demand a sacrifice when you have an event of this kind.<\/p>\n

“Sometimes the biggest and best exits are for characters that you care the most about. It’s going to be shocking. There will be lots of trauma, lots of drama and lots of twists.”<\/p>\n

Noting that the decision had even divided Coronation Street’s producers, MacLeod added: “It’s a big responsibility, so we do agonise about it quite a lot and argue about it. Our story conferences are fiery places at times, and this period of the show is no different.”<\/p>\n

Currently, details surrounding this unnamed character’s death are being kept under wraps, but the tease is certainly intriguing.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, fans are awaiting further details of the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Confirming the news in May<\/a>, an ITV spokesperson said: “The distinctive worlds of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will merge for one night only in a ‘mash-up’ of our two favourite communities.<\/p>\n

“The producers, scriptwriters and production teams have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire.”<\/p>\n

Uniting for one night only, the crossover episode<\/a> will be an hour long, before each soap returns to its normal pattern of transmission. A release date is yet to be determined, however, fans can expect to tune in at some point in January 2026. <\/p>\n

Last month, Emmerdale star Danny Miller teased “high-end drama”<\/a> while appearing on Luke Hamnett’s podcast, Live, Laugh, Luke<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Asked about the storyline for the upcoming crossover, he said: “I genuinely don’t know, and I’m as interested as everyone else to find out what they’re going to do with it. It’s very much a secret, closed-off project at the moment. The powers that be know what’s going on; it trickles down to us eventually.”<\/p>\n

The Aaron Dingle actor added: “The whispers are September\/October time for filming it, I don’t know whether that means it’s going to be on around that time or next year, I promise you I know absolutely nothing.”<\/p>\n

Coronation Street<\/strong> airs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.<\/strong><\/p>\n
