According to a recent report in the New York Times, MoMa failed to secure the loan as the Havana museum worried that any artworks entering the United States could be seized by a US court \u201cas part of claims by Cuban exiles and others seeking compensation for property confiscated in the revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWhen I Don\u2019t Sleep, I Dream\u201d is set to feature 150 artworks from throughout the Afro-Cuban Surrealist\u2019s life, and is curated by Christophe Cherix\u2014who was promoted to director of MoMA as the exhibition was being organized\u2014and Beverly Adams, the museum\u2019s curator of Latin American art.<\/p>\n<p>The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/17\/arts\/design\/christophe-cherix-moma-director-cuba-wifredo-lam.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> details the \u201cexpensive, complicated\u201d three-year process Cherix and Adams undertook to bring many of these rarely exhibited paintings and drawings to New York.
