{"id":72306,"date":"2025-09-18T22:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T22:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/72306\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T22:56:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T22:56:11","slug":"ballincollig-up-the-gears-in-second-half-to-easily-see-off-eire-og","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/72306\/","title":{"rendered":"Ballincollig up the gears in second half to easily see off \u00c9ire \u00d3g"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n             Ballincollig 3-13 (3-0-13) \u00c9ire \u00d3g 0-11 (0-1-9)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Reigning champions Ballincollig produced a strong second half display to comfortably defeat neighbours \u00c9ire \u00d3g in the Rebel \u00d3g Premier 1 MFC semi-final at rain-soaked Mardyke on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This was a typical local derby contest that drew a large crowd considering the heavy rain. It was an entertaining last four encounter. It wasn\u2019t the highest quality, but for sheer honesty and endeavour, it certainly delivered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Con O\u2019Connell\u2019s team had too much quality for their rivals as the game wore on helped by a Cian O\u2019Connor goal early in the second half. It gave Ballincollig the belief to kick on as at the time it looked like \u00c9ire \u00d3g were going to reel them in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Village will now meet Glanmire in the decider after the latter overcame Douglas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In very poor weather conditions, Ballincollig hit the front through a Danny Miskella point from a free after two minutes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/4787216_9_articleinlinemobile_EOHBallEire04.jpg\" alt=\"Ballincollig's Luke O'Mahony and Brian Cronin and \u00c9ire \u00d3g's Jack O'Connell go high for the ball. Picture: Eddie O&#8217;Hare<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Miche\u00e1l Sheehan replied two minutes later for \u00c9ire \u00d3g, but they wouldn\u2019t score again for another 21 minutes. There were mistakes on both sides, understandable given the conditions with wayward shooting a factor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ballincollig did put five points on the bounce. Danny Miskella with three points, one of which was a free, along with O\u2019Connor and Kevin O\u2019Leary, 0-6 to 0-1 after 16 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The scoreline was slightly misleading with \u00c9ire \u00d3g not making the most of promising positions while also shading possession.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Cian O\u2019Flynn white flag was timely for \u00c9ire \u00d3g, but a Danny Miskella free kept that buffer for his side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The team in red and yellow finished the half better though, as a pair of Cathal Murphy white flags left his team three points adrift at half-time, 0-7 to 0-4.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">An Ethan Hyde converted free was the perfect start for \u00c9ire \u00d3g on the resumption to keep his team in touch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There was a feeling though that Ballincollig were playing within themselves. Picture: Eddie O&#8217;Hare<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cian Ahern gave a great pass to O\u2019Connor and the latter finished beautifully into the roof of the net, 1-8 to 0-6. It sucked the life out of \u00c9ire \u00d3g.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ballincollig remained in control. They landed two of the next four points to lead 1-10 to 0-8 after 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Peter Rose received a black card two minutes later for Ballincollig as they were reduced to 14 players for 10 minutes. It didn\u2019t have any impact on the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Brian Cronin point was a settler for the Collig before they put the game to bed after 50 minutes when Luke O\u2019Mahony finished to the net from close range, 2-11 to 0-8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cronin got his second point before \u00c9ire \u00d3g landed a two-pointer through Eoghan Hogan, 2-12 to 0-10 with four minutes to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Seanie Hurley bisected the posts for the Ovens team, but Ballincollig finished with a flourish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/4787222_9_articleinlinemobile_EOHBallEire08.jpg\" alt=\"\u00c9ire \u00d3g's Se\u00e1n Murphy is tackled by Ballincollig's Darragh Crowley.
