Jose Mourinho is set to return to management and will immediately inherit a player Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign last summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018The Special One\u2019 recently lost his job as Fenerbahce boss after failing to reach the Champions League league phase.<\/p>\n

Mourinho has decided to overlook a Premier League return<\/a> and will head back to Portugal, having accepted the Benfica job.<\/p>\n

Fenerbahce\u2019s Champions League dream was actually ended by Benfica, so it is somewhat ironic to see Mourinho taking over the Lisbon giants.<\/p>\n

This is Mourinho\u2019s first job in Portugal since guiding Porto to Champions League glory in 2004.<\/p>\n

Mourinho returns to Benfica, having managed the club back in 2000, and he now inherits a squad which features a former Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> target in Georgiy Sudakov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tottenham eyed Sudakov under Ange Postecoglou<\/a>, viewing the Ukrainian as a potential addition to bring more creativity to Spurs.<\/p>\n

Spurs held talks to land Sudakov<\/a>, but he stayed with Shakhtar Donetsk for one more season and racked up 15 goals as well as six assists.<\/p>\n

Top Premier League interest in Sudakov faded this past summer, and Benfica were able to pounce with a loan deal, which has the scope for a permanent move next summer.<\/p>\n

That is a far cry from the \u00a360million Tottenham were quoted for Sudakov, as Shakhtar\u2019s attempts to land another big sale fell flat.<\/p>\n

Shakhtar believe Sudakov is a \u2018really special\u2019 talent<\/a>, and he now has the chance to prove that under Mourinho.<\/p>\n

Georgiy Sudakov can play his way back onto Tottenham Hotspur\u2019s radar<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tottenham recently signed Xavi Simons<\/a> from RB Leipzig, so Spurs may not be in the market for a creative player in January or even next summer.<\/p>\n

Spurs fans want to see Simons as a number 10<\/a>, though Thomas Frank has yet to go down that route.<\/p>\n

Sudakov could still play his way back onto Tottenham\u2019s radar, though, as Benfica represent a step forward in his career.<\/p>\n

Top Premier League sides may be wary of shopping in the Ukrainian market after Mykhailo Mudryk\u2019s move to Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Tottenham may want to see Sudakov shine outside of Ukraine before making any move down the line, and a move to Benfica offers that opportunity.<\/p>\n
