{"id":75224,"date":"2025-09-20T12:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T12:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75224\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T12:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T12:04:11","slug":"cyberattack-disrupts-operations-at-heathrow-and-other-european-airports-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75224\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyberattack disrupts operations at Heathrow and other European airports \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">A cyberattack at a provider of check-in and boarding systems has disrupted operations at several major European airports including London\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/heathrow-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/heathrow-airport\/\">Heathrow<\/a>, the Continent\u2019s busiest, causing flight delays and cancellations on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Collins Aerospace, which provides check-in and boarding systems for several airlines across multiple airports globally, is experiencing a technical issue that may cause delays for departing passengers,  Heathrow airport said, having warned of delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Brussels Airport and Berlin Airport were also affected by the attack, they said in separate statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RTX, Collins Aerospace\u2019s parent, said it had become aware of a \u201ccyber-related disruption\u201d to its software in select airports, without naming them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/economy\/2024\/12\/01\/area-14-dublin-airports-ghost-underground-station\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Area 14: Dublin Airport\u2019s ghost underground stationOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe impact is limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drop and can be mitigated with manual check-in operations,\u201d the company said in an emailed statement, adding that it was working to fix the issue as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The attack has rendered automated systems inoperable, allowing only manual check-in and boarding procedures, Brussels Airport said on its website, adding the incident had occurred on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThis has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights &#8230; The service provider is actively working on the issue and trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Passengers with a flight scheduled for Saturday were advised by the affected airports to confirm their travel with airlines before heading to the airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cDue to a technical issue at a system provider &#8230; there are longer waiting times at check-in. We are working on a quick solution,\u201d Berlin Airport said in a banner on its website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Frankfurt Airport, Germany\u2019s largest, was not affected, a spokesperson said.
