sites with designs that either complement or contrast with the neighbouring buildings.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/dublin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dublin<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/buenos-aires\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buenos Aires<\/a>, these infill houses demonstrate the clever ways vacant plots in built-up cities can be transformed into unique homes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2023\/05\/15\/ao-ft-timber-clad-spruce-house-london-terrace\/\" rel=\"nofollow target=\"_blank\">Ao-ft<\/a> designed Spruce House to fit in with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> streetscape by marrying up the terraced houses on either side, but created intrigue by fully covering its facade with vertical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/timber\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">timber<\/a> battens and mullions.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing from the area&#8217;s history as a village high street, Ao-ft based the facade design on a shop front, with a glazed ground floor placement of windows, Belgian studio Delmulle Delmulle Architecten used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/glass-bricks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">glass brickwork<\/a> for the upper portion of this home&#8217;s street-facing facade to bring natural light into the interior.<\/p>\n<p>Situated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/ghent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ghent<\/a>, the bedrooms at Glass Brick House were located on the ground floor, behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/terracotta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terracotta<\/a>-tiled facade, and the living, kitchen and dining spaces were placed above.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wisconsin<\/a>, American studio\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/johnsen-schmaling-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnsen Schmaling Architects<\/a> strayed from the pitched silhouette of the neighbouring homes and instead opted for a rectangular form fronted with wood and metal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/louvres\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">louvres<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The studio aimed to reimagine the conventions of infill housing with its contemporary addition to the street, which was built to the same height as its century-old neighbours.<\/p>\n<p><a Works<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Irish architecture studio Gr\u00f3 Works used red\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/bricks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">brick<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/perforated-metal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">perforated metal<\/a> panels to create an industrial feel at this infill house in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/dublin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dublin<\/a>, referencing the ornate Victorian red-brick terraces nearby and the more utilitarian backstreet the home overlooks.<\/p>\n<p>A door in the metal cladding opens onto a sheltered porch, creating space between the street and the home&#8217;s entrance. Bedrooms were placed on the ground floor, and the open-plan living area on the upper floor opens onto a balcony.<\/p>\n<p><a Arquitectura<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Located on a five-metre-wide infill plot in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/monterrey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Monterrey<\/a>, Mexico, Casa Ederlezi is made up of two red <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/concrete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">concrete<\/a> volumes separated by a central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/courtyards\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">courtyard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The infill home was designed by local studio Pr\u00e1ctica Arquitectura to be closed off from the surroundings, maintaining privacy, while outdoor spaces within the perimeter walls create a sense of openness.<\/p>\n<p><a Architects<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Occupying a triangular corner site in London that was formerly a builder&#8217;s yard, NW10 House has an irregular, blocky form that responds to the plot&#8217;s planning constraints and the sight lines of the surrounding properties.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by local practice\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/platform-5-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Platform 5 Architects<\/a>, the rooms in the three-storey home fan out from a central skylit spiral stair and feature exposed concrete interiors.<\/p>\n<p><a Vietnam, by ODDO Architects<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>TH House is a five-storey home squeezed into a four-by-six-metre infill site in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/hanoi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hanoi<\/a>, flanked by buildings on three sides with a narrow 1.2-metre-wide alley separating it from the property opposite.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnamese studio ODDO Architects maximised light in the narrow home with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/lightwell\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lightwells<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/perforations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">perforated<\/a> walls and a glazed facade that sits slightly forward of the interior double-sloped roof to help diminish its scale and better fit in with the residential neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p><a
