{"id":75361,"date":"2025-09-20T13:50:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T13:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75361\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T13:50:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T13:50:19","slug":"leitrim-man-renames-his-london-pub-to-honour-trumps-state-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75361\/","title":{"rendered":"Leitrim man renames his London pub to honour Trump&#8217;s state visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Leitrim man has temporarily changed the name of his London-based pub to the Trump Arms to mark President Trump\u2019s state visit to the UK this week.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time Damien Smyth from Ballinamore, who runs Bibby Mulligans pub in Kensington has changed the name of the pub for the duration of President Trump&#8217;s state visit to the UK. This is the second time they have done so, previously in 2018 during Trump&#8217;s first state visit to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to RT\u00c9 Radio One, Smyth said he supports the US President: \u201cHe is a tremendous man, he has sacrificed his life and his family&#8217;s lives to help his country and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just have a gathering of genuinely decent people who just love what he is doing and what he represents in our world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leitrimobserver.ie\/news\/pictures---videos\/1897318\/gallery-bands-from-manorhamilton-rock-school-raise-thousands-at-gig-for-gaza.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">READ MORE: GALLERY: Bands from Manorhamilton Rock School raise thousands at Gig for Gaza<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Smyth says he has received many American visitors following the pub changing its name the first time, as well as \u201ca huge amount of support,\u201d though he admits \u201cthere was a bit of abuse\u201d too.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u2019s state visit was met with thousands of people protesting in London, with four activists being arrested by police after pictures of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto the walls of Windsor Castle earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Smyth has also renamed the lounge of pub \u2018The Charlie Kirk Room\u2019 to honour the controversial right-wing activist who was murdered by a gunman on a college campus in Utah last week. \u201cA stately room which is becoming of him,\u201d said Smyth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leitrimobserver.ie\/news\/local-news\/1897514\/leitrim-home-care-heroes-recognised-with-two-prestigious-national-awards.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">READ MORE: Leitrim home care heroes recognised with two prestigious national awards<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was an inspiration to all young people,\u201d said Smyth.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what he thought of the pushback towards Kirk\u2019s views around women, Black people, and the great replacement theory, Smyth said, \u201cHe was full of common sense, he was a beautiful family man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room has a picture of Kirk hanging on the wall and a long table.
