{"id":75405,"date":"2025-09-20T14:30:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T14:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75405\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T14:30:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T14:30:08","slug":"dublin-airport-security-alert-stood-down-after-assessment-by-army-bomb-disposal-team-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/75405\/","title":{"rendered":"Dublin Airport security alert stood down after assessment by Army bomb disposal team \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">A security alert at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\">Dublin Airport<\/a> has been stood down after terminal 2 was evacuated on Saturday morning as a precaution. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na said it responded to \u201ca report of an item of airline luggage of concern at Dublin Airport\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Army\u2019s bomb disposal team, known as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, was deployed to the airport following a request from the Garda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cFollowing a preliminary examination on scene, the piece of luggage was contained and deemed safe for removal from T2 to an alternate location which would not impact on airport operations,\u201d the Garda said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cThe piece of luggage was subject to further examination by the Army EOD team and has been declared safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The force said it was continuing its investigation into the incident. \u201cBased on the information available to An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na and other relevant stakeholders, this was an appropriate and responsible approach to the situation which was presented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The alert was not related to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/europe\/2025\/09\/20\/cyberattack-disrupts-operations-at-heathrow-and-other-european-airports\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/europe\/2025\/09\/20\/cyberattack-disrupts-operations-at-heathrow-and-other-european-airports\/\">cyberattack that disrupted operations at several major European airports<\/a> on Saturday, though airport operator DAA said it has had \u201ca minor impact at Cork and Dublin Airports, where some airlines have implemented manual processes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement on Saturday afternoon, DAA said: \u201cTerminal 2 has now received the all-clear and passengers will shortly be allowed to re-enter the terminal.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It said flight operations were expected to resume at about 2pm. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cEarlier, Terminal 2 was evacuated as a precaution.
