\n\tWhoopi Goldberg<\/a> recently made headlines for her comment about not being \u201cto afford\u201d to retire right now. Now, her comment about her finances is curious in light of The View<\/a>\u2018s silence<\/a> about Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>\u2018s \u201cindefinite suspension.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWho can afford to do that?\u2019 Goldberg told Entertainment Tonight<\/a> on Sept. 9 when asked if she was interested in \u201cslowing down. \u201cIf you don\u2019t marry well, you gotta keep working.\u201d When the reporter pointed out that she \u201ccould probably afford\u201d retirement, Goldberg admitted, \u201cNo, not by now. Not yet. I gotta keep paying those bills, baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIf the 69-year-old comedian feels like she doesn\u2019t have enough money to retire comfortably, it might be why she and the rest of The View panel have been uncomfortably mum<\/a> about Kimmel\u2019s controversy. The women on the daytime talk show are known for their opinions, so why would they keep quiet now?<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the Daily Mail<\/a>, hosts Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were not on the same page on how to handle the issue. With cast members like Goldberg worried about their finances<\/a>, they might not want to be the squeaky wheel during such a tumultuous time at the network.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cABC as a whole is being attacked \u2013 not just The View,\u201d a source explained. \u201cThe FCC is coming for all of them. There\u2019s panic across the board, but obviously with more politically based shows than the entertainment ones.\u201d The network\u2019s move under the pressure of the FCC has created tension backstage.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBehind the scenes, staff are scared for their jobs. It\u2019s a scary time. They\u2019re really concerned. People are holding their breath,\u201d the insider added. \u201cThose who work in the media industry have been in fear for a while now, but last night\u2019s news, you can say it has heightened their fear. Some shows used to be without censorship, but now, after Kimmel\u2019s suspension, they\u2019re going to have to be extra careful about what they say on national TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFederal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr said in a Sept. 18 appearance<\/a> on The Scott Jennings Radio Show that The View might be his next target.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether The View, and some of these other programs that you have, still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore are exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place,\u201d Carr said.<\/p>\n

\n\tSo, Goldberg might be keeping her mouth shut publicly even though she is likely supporting Kimmel privately. Everybody wants to keep their job. <\/p>\n
