\n\tDeok Noh will direct the Korean remake of hit Indian thriller \u2018Drishyam,\u2019 Choi Jae-won, president of Korea\u2019s Anthology Studios confirmed to Variety at the Busan\u2019s Asian Contents & Film Market. <\/p>\n
\n\tThe remake of the\u00a0Drishyam<\/a>\u00a0franchise in Korea with Anthology and India\u2019s Panorama Studios in partnership, was unveiled in 2023 at Cannes. <\/a><\/p>\n \n\tPanorama Studios is backed by producer Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, while Anthology Studios is founded by former Warner Bros. local Korean production head, Choi Jae-won (aka Jay Choi), \u201cParasite\u201d actor Song Kang-ho and acclaimed director Kim Jee-woon.<\/p>\n \n\tSouth Korean filmmaker Deok Noh broke through with the 2013 romantic comedy \u201cVery Ordinary Couple,\u201d which won the Asian New Talent Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. She pivoted to a darker register with the 2015 newsroom thriller \u201cThe Exclusive: Beat the Devil\u2019s Tattoo,\u201d before moving into episodic storytelling with the sci-fi anthology \u201cSF8\u201d in 2020 and the Netflix mystery series \u201cGlitch\u201d in 2022.<\/p>\n \n\tWritten and directed by Jeetu Joseph, the Malayalam-language \u201cDrishyam\u201d (2013) was headlined by superstar Mohanlal<\/a>. It followed a cable TV operator whose simple world splinters after an accidental death involving his family, and his desperate measures to shield them from the law. The massive success of the film spawned hit remakes in several languages \u2013 in Kannada as \u201cDrishya\u201d (2014), starring Ravichandran, in Telugu as \u201cDrushyam\u201d (2014), starring Venkatesh, in Tamil as \u201cPapanasam\u201d (2015), starring Kamal Haasan, in Hindi as \u201cDrishyam\u201d (2015), starring Ajay Devgn and in Sinhala as \u201cDharmayuddhaya\u201d (2017), starring Jackson Anthony. A Chinese remake \u201cSheep Without a Shepherd\u201d (2019), starring Xiao Yang, grossed $199 million.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Malayalam-language \u201cDrishyam 2\u201d was completed during the pandemic and had a direct-to-streaming release on Prime Video in 2021, followed by the Telugu-language \u201cDrushya 2,\u201d also on the service. The Kannada-language \u201cDrishya 2\u201d had a theatrical release the same year.
