{"id":77315,"date":"2025-09-21T17:01:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T17:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/77315\/"},"modified":"2025-09-21T17:01:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T17:01:21","slug":"taliban-internet-shutdown-spreads-across-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/77315\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban internet shutdown spreads across Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JALALABAD, Afghanistan (AP) \u2014 A <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/taliban\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taliban<\/a> crackdown to \u201cprevent immorality\u201d is spreading across Afghanistan, with more provinces losing access to fiber-optic internet after <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-internet-ban-balkh-0554049d724b8c8e0fb1e668ff34bbd2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the country\u2019s leader imposed a complete ban<\/a> on the technology. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the first time a ban of this kind has been imposed <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-timeline-four-years-anniversary-cc0741771e66ed2de2fe8a0e97f7d0f7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">since the Taliban seized power in August 2021<\/a>, and leaves government offices, the private sector, public institutions, and homes without Wi-Fi internet. Mobile internet remains functional, however. Officials say alternatives are being found \u201cfor necessities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The northern Balkh province confirmed a Wi-Fi shutdown on Tuesday, with reports of severe disruption in other parts of the country. On Thursday, officials in the east and north said internet access was cut off in the provinces of Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Nangarhar, and Takhar.<\/p>\n<p>Siddiqullah Quraishi, from the Nangarhar Culture Directorate, confirmed the shutdown to The Associated Press.
