Disney<\/a> announced on Monday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would return to broadcast this Tuesday, after a brief but highly criticised suspension<\/a> that sparked a national debate on free speech and the muzzling tactics of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n Disney indefinitely suspended Kimmel\u2019s late-night talkshow last Wednesday, under pressure from Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> chair of the Federal Communications Commission<\/a> (FCC) over comments Kimmel made about Maga and the killing of far right activist Charlie Kirk<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,\u201d the company, which owns the ABC television network, said on Monday. <\/p>\n \u201cIt is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n The move comes after an extraordinary week that found late-night television in the political crosshairs. The tumult began last Monday, when Kimmel said during his monologue that \u201cthe Maga gang [is] desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it\u201d.<\/p>\n
