A book of evidence was served on Monday on a man on a single charge of sexually assaulting another man in Cork over four years ago.<\/p>\n
The charge, brought by Detective Garda Eimear Brennan, states that on July 31, 2021, at an address in Cork City the accused, aged 33, did sexually assault a named man.<\/p>\n
On the application of Sergeant John Kelleher, Judge John King sent the case forward from Cork District Court to the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on October 28.<\/p>\n
Judge King first gave the defendant the alibi notice whereby the State must be informed of any witnesses who may be called if such a defence is going to be used.<\/p>\n
There is a prohibition on identifying any of the parties to the case because of the nature of the charge.<\/p>\n
The defendant was remanded on continuing bail on conditions that include having no contact, direct or indirect, with the complainant or any witnesses in the case and providing garda\u00ed with a phone number at which he is contactable at all times.<\/p>\n
No details were given at Cork District Court of any of the allegations in this case which gave rise to the sexual assault charge being brought against the defendant.<\/p>\n
The accused was represented by solicitor Dennis Healy, and free legal aid was extended for a barrister to represent the accused at the circuit court.<\/p>\n
