New Brentford manager Keith Andrews is finding his feet this season.<\/p>\n

Martin O’Neill has had a go at Keith Andrews.<\/p>\n

Martin O\u2019Neill believes that Keith Andrews has the potential to succeed at Premier League side Brentford even though he has again gone on the record with his own dislike for the one-time TV pundit.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill has made repeated remarks about Andrews, his feelings stemming from what he saw as unfair criticism of O\u2019Neill by Andrews when he was a Sky Sports pundit during O\u2019Neill\u2019s tenure as Republic of Ireland manager. He has previously said that Andrews was \u201ca particularly vitriolic critic of mine at the time\u201d.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill had also said \u201che was dealing at the bottom end of it when I was winning the European Cup\u201d of Andrews, who was born in 1980, the year O\u2019Neill won his second European Cup with Nottingham Forest. <\/p>\n

\u201cKeith is not my favourite person because he was very critical of me in Ireland,” O\u2019Neill told the Guardian, speaking to promote his new book The Changing Game: The Past, Present and Future of Football.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe irony is that Brentford are using the long throw, which is not all that inventive because it\u2019s been around for years. But take my irritants aside. He\u2019s a young fellow coming in [to management] and it\u2019s a great challenge because he\u2019s taking over from a person whose character pervaded the football club.<\/p>\n

\"Martin<\/p>\n

Martin O’Neill has had a go at Keith Andrews.<\/p>\n

\u201cThomas Frank was excellent and so it\u2019s a strange and interesting dilemma for [Andrews]. Do you want to change things straight away? Do you want to show your personality immediately? Or do you take your time, because the players do know you?<\/p>\n

“But knowing you as a set-piece coach and then knowing you as a manager is a wee bit different. If you overcome those things, then you should be on the right path.\u201d<\/p>\n

Derry native O\u2019Neill also bemoaned the lack of \u201cBritish\u201d managers in England\u2019s top flight.<\/p>\n

“The Premier League now is so big it has seemingly untold wealth coming in. I hate to use the word \u2018foreign\u2019, but you\u2019re talking about foreign investment, foreign owners, foreign agents.<\/p>\n

“So the younger British manager is often managing a team in the third division. He\u2019s getting 12 or 14 games to prove himself, and if he doesn\u2019t do it in that time, he\u2019s in the wilderness, even before he gets started.
