A District Court judge said she did not want to jail a man for failing to pay fines as the prisons were full, but she said that he effectively sent himself to jail.<\/p>\n
Judge Mary Dorgan said she would put the matter back to enable Ciaran O\u2019Shea of 111 St Colman\u2019s Road, Farranree, to save up to start paying his fines.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But defence solicitor Joseph Cuddigan said: \u201cHe is not going to pay.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Cuddigan said the 29-year-old had given him very clear instructions that he did not want to do community service or pay fines, and that he would take a prison sentence.<\/p>\n
Judge Dorgan replied: \u201cI am not going to send him to prison and the prisons are full.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Cuddigan repeated that the young would not pay fines or do community service and was opting for the third choice provided for in legislation \u2013 a prison sentence.<\/p>\n
After options other than prison were closed off, Judge Dorgan said: \u201cI am really sorry that he is literally putting himself in prison because of his failure to deal with the probation service and pay fines.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Judge Dorgan then imposed sentences totaling two months \u2013 primarily for his threatening behaviour during a drunken incident at Glasheen Road, Cork, back on November 15, 2021.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed informed him he was being arrested because he was so intoxicated that he was a danger to himself.<\/p>\n
Mr O\u2019Shea shouted: \u201cF*** off ye gomie c***s\u201d, \u201cF*** you and all belonging to you\u201d and also, \u201cF*** you, ya f***ing yoke.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
