{"id":81734,"date":"2025-09-23T20:07:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T20:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/81734\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T20:07:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T20:07:07","slug":"trumps-autism-claims-spark-backlash-as-irelands-panadol-hub-makes-6-5bn-tablets-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/81734\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s autism claims spark backlash as Ireland\u2019s Panadol hub makes 6.5bn tablets a year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ireland is a major production base for paracetamol, the painkiller now in the spotlight after the Trump administration\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/arid-41710784.html\">unproven attempt to link Tylenol<\/a> use during pregnancy to autism.<\/p>\n<p>US president Donald Trump has claimed that taking Tylenol \u2014 the popular US pain reliever whose key ingredient is paracetamol \u2014 during pregnancy causes autism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Irish Medical Organisation dismissed these claims on Tuesday as \u201cfalse and irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The remarks are unwelcome for Ireland\u2019s paracetamol manufacturing industry. Haleon, a global healthcare company whose brands include Aquafresh, Centrum, Zovirax, and Robitussin, employs 1,700 people across four Irish locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Haleon\u2019s Dungarvan facility is the global home of Panadol, producing 6.5 billion tablets annually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Other common paracetamol products in Ireland include Paralief, produced by Clonmel Healthcare, and Rowalief, licensed in Bantry, West Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Tuesday, the European Medicines Agency said there is \u201cno link\u201d between paracetamol use in pregnancy and autism. It added that paracetamol remains safe during pregnancy when used at the lowest effective dose and frequency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Kenvue, the maker of Tylenol, was spun off from Johnson &amp; Johnson in 2023.
