{"id":82204,"date":"2025-09-24T01:44:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T01:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/82204\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T01:44:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T01:44:08","slug":"the-bride-trailer-maggie-gyllenhaals-frankenstein-movie-goes-dark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/82204\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Bride&#8217; trailer: Maggie Gyllenhaal&#8217;s Frankenstein movie goes dark"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Woman \u2026 friend \u2026 wife. <\/p>\n<p>Jessie Buckley is the platinum blond bride of Frankenstein in Maggie Gyllenhaal\u2019s sophomore directorial feature, \u201cThe Bride.\u201d  Fans got their first look at the dark film Tuesday thanks to  a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LJraZRHhFwQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">trailer<\/a> released  by Warner Bros. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bride,\u201d set in Great Depression-era Chicago, follows a Frankenstein variant named Frank (Christian Bale)  who recruits  Dr. Euphronius (Annette Bening) to fashion him an undead soulmate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!\u201d according to the film\u2019s official synopsis. <\/p>\n<p>The movie is set to hit theaters in March.<\/p>\n<p>In the  trailer, the titular Bride is the unknowing product of Frank and the doctor\u2019s dark scheme, alternating between loyal naivete to her companion and a lingering curiosity about where she comes from. Featuring Halloween hues and a dark synthy backing track, the teaser suggests an edgy twist on Mary Shelley\u2019s 1818 novel \u201cFrankenstein\u201d and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0026138\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">James Whale\u2019s<\/a>  1935 film \u201cBride of Frankenstein,\u201d at one point flashing in oversize orange text, \u201cHere comes the mother f\u2014 bride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gyllenhaal, who also wrote and co-produced the film, shared the trailer Tuesday on <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DO818fbjZJn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrilled (and a little terrified) to give you a peek at my new baby,\u201d she said in her post. \u201cHere we go. Are you ready??\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rosamund Pike, Olivia Wilde and Gyllenhaal\u2019s  brother Jake,  who also stars in \u201cThe Bride,\u201d left comments of support. <\/p>\n<p>Gyllenhaal made her feature  directorial debut in 2021 with <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2021-12-31\/column-the-lost-daughter-is-a-film-about-motherhood-that-everyone-needs-to-see\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Lost Daughter,\u201d<\/a> an adaptation of Elena Ferrante\u2019s 2006 novel by the same name. The film, which also starred  Buckley, received a slew of awards, including best feature and breakthrough director at the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion.com\/current\/posts\/7622-the-lost-daughter-leads-the-gothams?srsltid=AfmBOor2m-z6XmhHvJ59uVQLGi67bdO-_NEaACMb4GQ30JwYKvGQ6hZo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gotham Awards<\/a>. It also landed Gyllenaal her <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/awards\/newsletter\/2022-02-04\/envelope-newsletter-oscars-lost-daughter-the-envelope-glenns-edition\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second Academy Award nomination<\/a> for  adapted screenplay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bride\u201d is the second Frankenstein adaptation set to arrive in the next six months, following <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/newsletter\/2025-09-08\/tiff-guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein-cast-tiff-picks-toronto-international-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d<\/a>  which opens in theaters Oct. 17 and streams Nov. 7 on Netflix.
