5 Seconds of Summer are releasing new music this week.<\/p>\n
It all started earlier this week when a mysterious new Instagram account, @thediaryofsix<\/a>, piqued fans\u2019 curiosity, teasing \u201cyour favorite boy band is back.\u201d<\/p>\n A link in the account\u2019s bio led to a website whose homepage read: \u201cIt\u2019s official \u2013 the greatest boyband in history are returning! Check back tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe greatest boyband\u201d could have been referring to Backstreet Boys, or One Direction, or even Westlife, but several new Instagram posts today confirmed it was about 5SOS.<\/p>\n \u201c5 Seconds of Summer is not OK,\u201d one says; \u201c5SOS are breaking up??\u201d another reads; the latest post features all four members sporting stylised looks, including Luke Hemmings with spiked hair.<\/p>\n And on the linked website, a quick quiz now reveals a pre-save page<\/a> with a countdown on it: at the time of writing, it states that new music from 5SOS is set to drop in 20 hours, so at around 4am AEST tomorrow.<\/p>\n 5SOS\u2019 last album,\u00a05SOS5, dropped on September 23rd, 2022 and was yet another hit release. The record hit No. 1 in Australia \u2013 their fifth consecutive chart-topper \u2013 and reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 2 in the US.<\/p>\n In our\u00a0countdown of the 100 best Australian albums of the 2020s so far<\/a>, 5SOS5 made it to No. 22 on the list, while solo albums from three of the four band members sat pretty in the middle at No. 51, No. 50, and No. 49, respectively.<\/p>\n Various 5SOS members haven\u2019t been shy about discussing new music with Rolling Stone AU\/NZ in recent interviews.<\/p>\n Bassist Calum Hood gave an update on potential new music<\/a> from the Sydney quartet. While discussing his debut solo LP, ORDER chaos ORDER<\/a>, the 29-year-old songwriter hinted at what\u2019s to come next.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re always planning. The 5SOS cog in the music world never stops. In fact, it\u2019s probably the hardest-working cog,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s always conversations going. There\u2019s always people dreaming up things \u2014 \u2018What if we do this, what if we do that?\u2019 So fear not, because there\u2019s always something going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
