She will continue to present The Week in Politics and feature across RT\u00c9\u2019s coverage of the forthcoming presidential election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">New presenters of Ireland\u2019s most listened-to radio show are due to be unveiled by RT\u00c9 in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Ms Wilson said she felt \u201cincredibly lucky\u201d to have had \u201c35 wonderful years\u201d in RT\u00c9 and thanked her colleagues and listeners. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">She said her standout memory, while working as legal affairs correspondent, was \u201cordinary people\u201d trusting her to tell their stories. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cThere\u2019s big names who sail in and sail out\u2026[but] it\u2019s those ordinary people who fight the good fight and trust you to tell their story for them, be true to them. I know that\u2019s what will stand out to me,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Ms Wilson joined the broadcaster\u2019s newsroom in 1990. Since then, the Tipperary native\u2019s career has been book ended by roles at Morning Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">She began as a reporter on the show before going on to be legal affairs correspondent, editor and the first presenter of Drivetime in 2006. She returned to present Morning Ireland in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Ms Wilson said she was \u201cfortunate\u201d to be able to retire, saying she was looking forward to becoming a radio listener, as opposed to a presenter, alongside \u201cindulging my many hobbies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Ms Lawlor, who has presented Morning Ireland for 17 years in total, joined the broadcaster in 1984.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege to be part of Morning Ireland for so many years, to be a part of the programme so many listeners turn to at the start of the day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Sports presenter Des Cahill said he wanted to acknowledge the \u201ctwo wonderful broadcasters\u201d and thanked them for their \u201cprofessionalism, dedication, and commitment to the important role of public service broadcasting\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin also acknowledged the two presenters on X and said they would \u201cboth be missed\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">In a statement, RT\u00c9 said new Morning Ireland presenters would be announced shortly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Last month it was announced that Claire Byrne would be departing RT\u00c9 and her Today programme to join rival Newstalk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RT\u00c9 broadcasters Mary Wilson and \u00c1ine Lawlor have presented their final Morning Ireland radio programme on Wednesday.
