{"id":83405,"date":"2025-09-24T20:09:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T20:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/83405\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T20:09:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T20:09:09","slug":"momentum-stocks-sputter-weighing-on-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/83405\/","title":{"rendered":"Momentum stocks sputter, weighing on markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"css-g65o95\" href=\"https:\/\/sherwood.news\/markets\/robinhood-new-s-and-p-500-leader-the-subject-of-favorable-analyst-chatter\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robinhood, new S&amp;P 500 leader, the subject of favorable analyst chatter<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\"><a class=\"inline-stock css-1iix00n\" href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.com\/us\/en\/stocks\/HOOD\/?source=sherwood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robinhood Markets<\/a> briefly touched a new all-time intraday high in early trading after the <a href=\"https:\/\/sherwood.news\/markets\/robinhood-applovin-vault-higher-as-the-inclusion-effect-is-in-full-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"css-uubm0\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">newly minted<\/a> \u2014 and now top-performing \u2014 member of the the S&amp;P 500 received some favorable write-ups from Wall Street analysts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">(Robinhood Markets Inc. is the parent company of Sherwood Media, an independently operated media company subject to certain legal and regulatory restrictions. I own stock as part of my compensation.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">Piper Sandler analysts highlighted momentum in the company\u2019s prediction markets business thanks to the rollout of contracts on college and profession football, noting that the event contracts business was running at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/23\/prediction-markets-for-nfl-already-a-200-million-business-for-robinhood-says-piper-sandler.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"css-uubm0\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a $200 million annualized rate<\/a> so far in September. They raised their price target on the shares to $140 from $120. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">\u201cPrediction Markets (aka event contracts) present significant upside opportunity for Robinhood,\u201d Piper Sandler\u2019s Patrick Moley wrote.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">Elsewhere, Citi analysts raised their Q3 and full-year 2025 estimates and upped their price target on the shares to $135, but kept a \u201cneutral\u201d rating on the stock.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"css-1egroba\">\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">\u201cWhile HOOD continues to see solid momentum across the platform, we believe the stock is pricing in much of the growth potential in our view. Given current valuations and where we are in the retail cycle (closer to the highs than the lows from an activity perspective from our viewpoint), we prefer to wait for a more reasonable entry point at present.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">The stock has clearly had a heck of a run. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-14ve0pc\">Through yesterday\u2019s close, Robinhood was up nearly 240% in 2025.
