Kody Brown reveals what his wife Robyn thought of him joining Special Forces: World\u2019s Toughest Test \u2014 and, if heard from his former wives<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
“When the show was introduced to us, she was like, ‘I don’t think I want you to do that and we’ve got to have a discussion,\u2019\u201d the Sister Wives star tells PEOPLE of his wife Robyn<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
For Kody, he saw the Fox competition series as the opportunity to \u201cpivot in my life\u201d following the demise of three out of the four of his marriages<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Kody Brown<\/a> admits his wife, Robyn Brown<\/a>, had some hesitations about him signing up for Special Forces: World\u2019s Toughest Test<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Sister Wives<\/a> star, 56, told PEOPLE about his wife\u2019s initial reaction to the possibility of him joining the season 4 cast<\/a> of the grueling Fox competition series at the show\u2019s recent red carpet event in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n \u201cMy wife, Robyn, when the show was introduced to us, she was like, \u2018I don’t think I want you to do that and we’ve got to have a discussion,\u2019\u201d he says of the series, which sees stars head to a foreign country to take part in various challenges that mimic military training. \u201cThere ended up not being a discussion. It just became an assumption from then on.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think when she saw, when I showed her or told her what it would be similar to or what I thought it would be like, she was like, \u2018Oh, this is one of those things that you are going to do and I’m not going to be able to stop you,\u2019\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n Pete Dadds\/FOX<\/p>\n Kody Brown on ‘Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test’<\/p>\n When asked if he heard from any of his former wives about him taking part in the reality series, Kody admits, \u201cNo, really just the only part of our lives that are connected are through the show [Sister Wives].\u201d<\/p>\n Despite Robyn\u2019s concerns, Kody knew it was the right decision for him to join the series following the end of his marriages<\/a> with exes Christine Brown Woolley<\/a>, 53, Janelle Brown<\/a>, 56, and Meri Brown<\/a>, 54.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like it was just a challenge,\u201d he says of appearing on Special Forces, which returns on Sept. 25. \u201cI wanted to sort of put a pivot in my life, change the directions I was going.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn’t the pivot that I wanted, but it was the pivot I needed, and I had an exceptional experience that was almost spiritual in a way,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n Amanda Edwards\/Getty<\/p>\n Kody Brown attends the Fox’s ‘Special Forces’ Red Carpet at the Fox Studio Lot on September 9, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n Kody previously told PEOPLE in January 2024 that he had \u201cgood days and bad days\u201d since the demise of his marriages.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s been a process,\u201d he shared at the time. \u201cReally I just look forward to a future of a lot of forgiving and a lot of more understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n Kody explained that he’s had to rebuild his self-esteem \u201cbecause it destroys your confidence when you go through a divorce or a family breakup.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like my confidence is coming back,\u201d he added. \u201cI got to find that space of grace and love for myself as well. Be it really forgiving of simple things, like just being angry about what has happened. Then, in December 2022, Janelle confirmed that she and Kody gone their separate ways<\/a>. One month later, Meri announced her split from Kody<\/a>.
