{"id":86141,"date":"2025-09-26T05:12:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T05:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86141\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T05:12:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T05:12:10","slug":"plot-of-land-sought-by-council-to-solve-grave-problem-in-limerick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86141\/","title":{"rendered":"Plot of land sought by council to solve &#8216;grave&#8217; problem in Limerick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LIMERICK City and County <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/514\/deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Council<\/a> is seeking a site to develop a new burial ground to serve the communities of Murroe and Cappamore.<\/p>\n<p>It comes with the existing cemeteries in these areas now at full capacity.<\/p>\n<p>A council spokesperson says the local authority only has limited land in its portfolio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/deaths\/1902481\/a-secret-giver-limerick-locksmith-for-60-years-had-keys-to-people-s-hearts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">&#8216;A secret giver&#8217;: Limerick locksmith for 60 years had keys to people&#8217;s hearts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So it is looking to private landowners for help.<\/p>\n<p>In a notice, they have said the site should be around three to five acres in size, and situated within a reasonable distance of Cappamore or Murroe villages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe site should have good road access and have acceptable groundwater\/geological characteristics,\u201d the council\u2019s notice continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterested landowners must agree to allow Limerick City and County Council officials and agents to inspect the land and carry out appropriate site investigation, if the site has potential as a cemetery,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n<p>Fianna Fail councillor Martin Ryan, who represents the parishes on the local authority, has welcomed the move.<\/p>\n<p>He said many families &#8211; including his &#8211; have had to bury relatives outside the area due to lack of space in cemeteries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the 1970s, Cappamore has been looking for a new graveyard. There\u2019s a big need, there\u2019s been a call for extra cemetery spaces going back a long time now between Cappamore and Murroe.
