{"id":86483,"date":"2025-09-26T09:33:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T09:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86483\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T09:33:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T09:33:07","slug":"search-for-fisherman-believed-to-have-fallen-overboard-under-way-in-co-sligo-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86483\/","title":{"rendered":"Search for fisherman believed to have fallen overboard under way in Co Sligo \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">A search for a fisherman is under way in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sligo\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sligo\/\">Co Sligo<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">It is believed he fell overboard from his vessel, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/coast-guard\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/coast-guard\/\">Coast Guard<\/a> is now focusing its operation on the area off Mullaghmore and out into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\/\">Donegal Bay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A member of the public alerted the Coast Guard\u2019s co-ordination centre of a fishing vessel that had run aground two nautical miles south of Mullaghmore Head. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Malin Head Coast Guard are co-ordinating the search. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter R118, Killybegs Coast Guard Unit and RNLI lifeboats from Bundoran, Aranmore, Ballyglass and Sligo are continuing to search the area with a number of local fishing vessels also on scene in support of the search.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Councillor Donal Gilroy,\u00a0Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, said the fisherman\u2019s boat was found near\u00a0Cliffoney beach at the western side of Mullaghmore Head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A number of local fishing vessels are supporting the Coast Guard and the RNLI in the search.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Gilroy said local people are thinking of the man\u2019s family today as the situation unfolds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cPeople go for walks along the seashore and along the cliffs, they will keep an eye out.
