{"id":86672,"date":"2025-09-26T12:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T12:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86672\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T12:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T12:00:10","slug":"ministers-seek-way-to-exclude-fast-food-franchises-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/86672\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministers seek way to exclude fast-food franchises \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/government\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/government\">Government<\/a> is said to be exploring ways of excluding multinational fast-food chains from a reduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tax\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tax\">rate of VAT<\/a> aimed at shoring up the hard-hit hospitality sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The Government has signalled that it will reduce VAT on restaurants and food-serving businesses in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/budget\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/budget\/\">budget<\/a> from 13.5 per cent to 9 per cent to help them fight costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-finance\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-finance\/\">Department of Finance\u2019s<\/a> Tax Strategy Group has costed the move at \u20ac675 million, a sum that would account for almost half the Government\u2019s proposed \u20ac1.5 billion tax package.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cThe cost depends on what form the package takes &#8230;
