With the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, the company is not only upgrading the processor but may also use a cutting-edge storage technology. It may use UFS 4.1, the latest generation of mobile storage, which delivers faster performance.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S flagships might get UFS 4.1, thanks to the advanced mobile chip

Samsung is shaking up its next-gen Galaxy S26 series by ditching the Plus model in favor of the Edge. For years, the Plus variant has been positioned as the middle ground between the standard and Ultra models. But with the S26 lineup, the company will introduce the Galaxy S26 Edge as a slimmer flagship with powerful performance. Furthermore, the base model may get Pro branding, likely to highlight its premium appeal.

Rumors so far suggest that the company might follow a dual-chip strategy for the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip globally, the S26 Pro and S26 Edge may use both upcoming in-house Exynos 2600 and Snapdragon variants, depending on the region.

In addition to the powerful processor, we may see the latest universal flash storage standard in the Galaxy S26 series. The reason is that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor now supports UFS 4.1, opening the door for Samsung to combine flagship hardware with advanced storage solutions. UFS 4.1 is a major leap in terms of faster data access and performance compared to the previous UFS 4.0 standard. We can assume Exynos 2600 also comes with support for UFS 4.1, so the S26 Pro and Edge models, regardless of the chip they use, could take advantage of the faster storage.

Samsung has been using UFS 4.0 since the Galaxy S23 series, so it’s time for the company to adopt the latest generation storage technology. Given the relationship between Micron and Samsung, the Galaxy S26 series could use American memory maker’s UFS 4.1 solutions, which debuted earlier this year. We will learn more about this in the coming month. Stay tuned.

Samsung’s Galaxy S series stands out as one of the most powerful Android phones in the market.
