Cillian Murphy<\/a> picked \u2018Abbey Road\u2019 by The Beatles<\/a> as his favourite album during an exclusive interview with NME.<\/p>\n

The Oscar<\/a> winner is currently promoting his new drama Steve<\/a>, co-starring Little Simz<\/a>, and both sat down with NME\u2019s Alex Flood to discuss the movie. You can watch the interview in full below.<\/p>\n

The stars were asked about one album they go back to over and over. For Little Simz, it was Frank Ocean\u2019s<\/a> 2011 mixtape \u2018Nostalgia Ultra\u2019, but the Oppenheimer<\/a> star went with The Fab Four\u2019s penultimate 1969 release, which featured classics such as \u2018Come Together\u2019 and \u2018Here Comes The Sun.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was very young\u2026 I we used to go to the city library and actually rent cassettes\u201d Murphy recalled. \u201cAnd I remember renting \u2018Abbey Road\u2019 by The Beatles because my dad had the greatest hits on cassette.<\/p>\n

\u201cI listen to that over and over and over and over and over and over and over, and you know the second half is that whole McCartney collage thing which is just this incredible virtuosity. Yeah. And it\u2019s like it always felt kind of like you were traveling through something.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revealed a personal connection to the eponymous studio. \u201cThen I ended up living near Abbey Road. So bizarre\u201d he said. \u201cIt just became like a road.\u201d<\/p>\n

Set in the \u201890s, Netflix<\/a> drama Steve sees Murphy star as a headteacher in charge of a school for boys with societal and behavioural difficulties. His struggles with the school\u2019s impending closure and his own mental health issues run parallel with the story of Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught in a difficult situation.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Cillian Murphy performed a surprise DJ set at Cork music festival Sounds From A Safe Harbour, which he also curates.<\/a><\/p>\n
