\n\t\u201cI thought, it\u2019s been so crazy this last week, that to be with a puppy might do you some good,\u201d Louis-Dreyfus said, referencing Kimmel\u2019s brief suspension by ABC following pressure from the FCC regarding comments he made about the killing of Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cVeep\u201d and \u201cSeinfeld\u201d star handed Kimmel the pooch<\/a>, named Ethel, and said, \u201cShe particularly wanted to come on because she\u2019s a huge fan of the First Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMany viewed Kimmel\u2019s suspension as an example of the Disney-owned ABC bending the knee to Donald Trump, who has long called for the cancellation of late-night programs that have been critical of him. After FCC chairman Brendan Carr suggested on a podcast that the commission could pull the license of broadcasters who don\u2019t \u201cserve the public interest,\u201d media groups Nexstar and Sinclair announced they would not air \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d due to his comments about Kirk. ABC quickly followed suit, benching the late-night host for nearly a week.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel returned on Tuesday and delivered a monologue<\/a> that emphasized the importance of free speech and paid respect to Erika Kirk, whose remarks at her husband\u2019s funeral \u201ctouched [Kimmel] deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite not airing in 60 American cities, Kimmel\u2019s return to air scored 6.3 million viewers<\/a>, marking the most-watched regular episode in \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d history (excluding special Sunday episodes). The broadcast represented a 343% increase from the previous season\u2019s average of 1.4 million viewers. Kimmel\u2019s Tuesday night monologue currently boasts more than 21 million views on YouTube.<\/p>\n
