A popular barber shop in County Kilkenny<\/a> has reversed their decision to close following the support they received from the local community<\/a> after the announcement.<\/p>\n

In a statement on social media, Joe’s Barber Shop in Johnstown posted: “A few weeks ago, I announced I was closing the doors after 10 years. The truth is, the cost of running a small business had become too much\u2026 soaring bills, taxes, VAT, rates, and zero real support for people like me trying to keep things going. Meanwhile, the shadow economy ticks along without a care.<\/p>\n

“It felt like an impossible fight. But since that announcement, I\u2019ve been hit with something I didn\u2019t expect; the sheer volume of support. Calls, messages, people stopping me in the street, even hand-drawn cards from kids who come in for haircuts. It was overwhelming.<\/p>\n

“It reminded me why I opened in the first place\u2026 not for government tick-boxes or Revenue forms, but for the people in this community (and a job for me, obviously). So here\u2019s the news: Joe\u2019s Barber Shop will reopen.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019ll be just me this time, working alone and at a pace that makes sense. Prices will rise a little\u2026 that\u2019s just the reality of keeping the doors open! But the standard won\u2019t slip. And if that increase doesn\u2019t suit, I understand. Cheaper cuts are ALWAYS out there. No offence taken. We\u2019re all dealing with rising costs.”<\/p>\n

Joe also claimed that ‘not a single local<\/a> government, community or county representative’ contacted him since he announced closing.<\/p>\n

“That silence speaks volumes,” he told followers. “But I opened this shop 10 years ago with no help from them, so I\u2019ll reopen the very same way. At least now I know where I stand (and I won\u2019t forget it when the votes come knocking).<\/p>\n

“As for Johnstown<\/a> \u2014 it will not be left to become another derelict village. Not while I\u2019ve a say in it. My shop might be a small piece, but it\u2019s one piece that keeps life on the main street, and I\u2019m not going to let it disappear.<\/p>\n
